Team Dignitas’ HGC Preview: Week 8

Wed 4th Apr 2018 - 8:44pm

Last weekend Team Dignitas defeated Leftovers with a 3-1 score. Leftovers fought back in Game 2 and took Team Dignitas by surprise, but Team Dignitas clamped down their efforts to take the last two games to win the series. Some peculiar things were observed in this series, such as the return of double-support compositions featuring Tassadar. Garrosh and Diablo had very high priority in the drafts and Tracer only made it through the bans in 1 game. It seems the meta is slowly shifting, but it’s hard to tell if things will move more into the double-support theme or if something new will emerge.

As we get closer and closer to the end of this Phase, all teams have the Mid-Season Brawl on their minds. Both series this weekend will be very important to Team Dignitas’ score and their chances of keeping the first seed for MSB, as Fnatic and a few other teams are hot on their trail.

Team Dignitas vs. Diamond Skin - Friday, April 6th at 11:00 am PDT / 8:00 pm CEST

While Diamond Skin currently sits at 7th place in the standings with a 2-8 W-L score, they are just as unpredictable as the other mid-range EU teams. They recently lost to Fnatic, but in a previous week, they actually took a series from Tricked Esport. It’s difficult to say exactly where they stand in comparison to the other EU teams, but Team Dignitas will definitely not be going easy on them.

Rainer “nande” Wöß is the flex player for Diamond Skin who has taken on the solo-lane role. Lately, he has been playing a lot of Malthael, Sonya, and some Dehaka. Tyrael and Blaze are also some good contenders for an off-tank / solo-lane Hero. Jonathan “Wubby” Gunnarsson has also been picking up these prominent solo-laners, but we’ve also seen him bust out the Zeratul on occasion. Blaze has slowly been working his way out of the Team Dignitas meta week by week, while Sonya seems to be showing up more. As well, with the Zeratul picks, so far they have only been on Dragon Shire, so this would be something to consider on the side of Diamond Skin. But then again, wasting a ban on Zeratul could mean Heroes like Tracer or Medivh could be picked up by Team Dignitas who feel very comfortable on both of these Heroes.

Team Dignitas vs. Method - Sunday, April 8th at 11:00 am PDT / 8:00 pm CEST

Method had a very unfortunate run at the Western Clash in Katowice. They were a team that was expected to go to the finals, but instead had a rough first day and dropped out of the tournament. Every week they are fighting hard to prove they are still one of the top 3 teams in EU. Since the Western Clash, Method has lost to Leftovers, defeated their rival Zealots in a clean 3-0, but then also lost 3-1 to Team Liquid just last weekend. All of the EU teams are performing inconsistently it seems, and it has a lot to do with how close and strong all of these teams are. It makes every single series super exciting, and it’s only going to get more intense as we get close to MSB.

Method have had some interesting drafts lately as well. Less common meta Heroes such as Falstad, Samuro, Illidan, and Kerrigan have appeared in their games. Dominic “Nic” Asal has really shown his versatility lately, playing Tychus, Thrall, Hanzo, and Falstad just in their last series. He is also known for playing the Mage Heroes on the team. Chromie, Li-Ming, and Gul’dan always have a chance to make it into the draft, although their appearances have fallen off a lot lately. Vilhelm “POILK” Flennmark is also known to wreak havoc when he gets the chance to play any of the top Mages. But lately, Hanzo seems to be his prominent Hero, as Tracer is banned nearly 100% of the time. Banned for good reason too, as Team Dignitas is currently undefeated in Phase 1 with Tracer. POILK also has some experience with Tychus and Junkrat if needed, but if he can get his hands on Tracer, Hanzo, or Chromie, Team Dignitas will be very confident with their draft.

Remember to join the Digfans in our #DIGscord to watch the games and analyze the plays. It’s always a great time, and even Bakery makes a guest appearance here and there to offer his insights. We’re hoping for a clean 2-0 this weekend to be even closer to clutching out the top spot to the Mid-Season Brawl.
