It was recently announced that Dignitas would be entering the battle royale scene by bringing on an Apex Legends squad. I talked with one of the new players, Miguel "Mig_99" Angel Medina Jr, about his gaming history and what the process was like in being brought aboard.  With so many other battle royales out there, he also shares his input on what he thinks will keep Apex going for years to come and what he hopes will come to the game in the near future.

First off, what got you into gaming? What did you spend most of your time playing in the beginning?

Mig_99: When I was a kid, my dad came home with a PS1 and I started playing that – mainly Crash Bandicoot. I just started playing everything; GameCube, handhelds, Pokemon. I played a lot of Pokemon growing up. I think that game that got me into shooters was Modern Warfare 2. When that came out, I played it for hours and hours.

You were a well-known H1Z1 player with a FFTC Championship to your name - what got you into H1Z1/the BR scene to begin with?

Mig_99: At first, I didn’t know there was a PC scene. My freshman year of college, I came across Twitch through YouTube and I started watching Hexy on Twitch and he was playing H1Z1. That was the first glimpse I got of battle royale and then that got me in to PC gaming. I just started playing casually and I didn’t know I was that good and I started playing a lot. I got into my first tournament through an invitational – I got invited by one of the streamers.

It was just announced that you, Shurimawizard, and CrozzoveR would represent Dignitas in Apex Legends - what was that process like? Who contacted who, etc?

Mig_99: We were just playing one day – we were actually having a really good day in league matches. Towards the end of the league matches, I got a message from MepH trying to get all of the info from us in regard to our plans for the game and all that stuff.  We sent that all over and we just talked from there.

You’ve played with Shurima before on Obey, which is the team that you won the Championship with. What do you like about playing with him?

Mig_99: He’s really mechanically skilled and has insane aim. He’s very straightforward with comms and tells you what he wants. He doesn’t beat around the bush and I really like that about him.

Where did you guys first meet CrozzoveR and what do you like about playing with him so much?

Mig_99: During H1Z1, there was a period where I was a free agent and didn’t really have a team, so I was playing with different people and that’s where I came across CrozzoveR.  We needed an in-game lead and he was pretty known for it.  He has pretty nutty aim as well.

What made you choose Apex as your main game right now when there are so many other BR’s out there?

Mig_99: I feel like Apex is really similar to H1Z1 with how you rotate, get cover, and how competitive is. It’s really aim-based and you have to be smart with your rotations late game compared to Fortnite.

Do you think Apex has what it takes to maintain a competitive scene for years to come?

Mig_99: Yeah, I think it has the player base. I think it has the aim system with things like bullet drop. It’s a very team based and every character has its own role and you really have to work as a team.

If you could, are there any changes to the game that you would make?

Mig_99: I would add a competitive/ranked playlist. I heard they have supposedly said that it was coming soon – I haven’t seen any proof, but I think it’s coming.

Do you have any tips for players out there that want to make it to the pro level, whether it be in Apex or any other game?

Mig_99: Just play a lot. It’s all about practice. I believe in hard work and that can put you to where you want to be. Talent is a very small thing. It’s possible to become pro even if they play a couple hours per week if they’re consistent.

As a final, easy question - what’s your favorite place to drop?

Mig_99: Skulltown. 100%

Thank you so much for answering some questions for us! Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to?

Mig_99: Shoutout to everyone that supported me with my dream!
