Interview with dignitas\Tommey
Tom 'Tommey' Trewren is a man who needs very little introduction to the MW3 community. We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to chat to one of Team Dignitas’ newest members about the world of MW3 and the new Team Dignitas Modern Warfare 3 team.
How did you become involved in the competitive scene?
Tommey: It first started back when I use to play Socom on the PS2, although that game wasn't very competitive as cheating would occur but that's how it all started for me. My brother then went onto purchase an Xbox 360 whereas I went with the PS3, after a while he then offered to buy my PS3 from me so I could get an Xbox and join up with his team.
We started out on the site most did, www.gamebattles.com and from that we moved to Decerto which is where we're at now. I no longer team with my brother though as he had to take a step back.
What drew you to MW3 over other shooters?
Tommey: I've only ever really played Call Of Duty on the Xbox, I've obviously played other games but this is what I started out with. So whenever the new game of the series comes out, I tend to just play that but if the competitive scene reverts back to an old title or a completely different game I'd go with whatever was chosen as long as I enjoyed it.
How much practice goes into playing FPS competitively?
Tommey: It differs for each individual, for me I don't tend to play that much when there’s not much going on, I still do try to come on now and then to make sure everything is still there. However when you have big events coming up such as EGL, a lot of practice is needed. I'd say around 3-4 nights a week is sufficient enough to maintain the best from you and your team.
Team coordination as a whole is difficult to obtain how do you guys work on your communication?
Tommey: For ourselves, we've got it pretty much sorted. If you struggle to get along with your team mates outside of gaming, then you'll find it harder to communicate then you would If you had a laugh and all got along. It just flows when everyone is enjoying what you're doing and you're all capable of having a laugh and not getting down each other’s throats if something goes wrong.
What are your goals at the moment for MW3?
Tommey: With this team being a relatively new team, we want to prove that we have what it takes to grab a top three finish at EGL and then to keep improving. Our main goal is to be considered a top contender for every event we attend, we want to be seen as one of the best if not the best team in Europe and now to be part of Dignitas, it makes this a lot easier to do.
What is your preferred role within the team?
Tommey: I'm the versatile player of the team, I play whichever role is needed against different teams and depending on the map. So I can play as an SMG Objective or an Aggressive AR along with Sniping on a few Search & Destroy maps. I switch between the ACR, PP90M1 and the MSR (Sniper).
Do you have any plans beyond MW3 for eSports?
Tommey: I haven't really thought about what I'll do after MW3/when I quit playing competitively. I'll most likely still be around; I could go into management or something along the lines of that.
Thank you for taking the time to have a chat to us. Are there any shoutouts you would like to make?
Tommey: I'd like to give a big shoutout and thank you to Team Dignitas for giving us this opportunity and also all of it's sponsors. Shoutouts also go to my personal sponsors, Scuf Gaming, SquidGrip and Hauppauge!
