Team Dignitas’ HGC Preview: Week 1

In this first week of HGC, Team Dignitas only faces one team. Tricked Esport will attempt to take down Team Dignitas, a team that already seems to be at the Top of the EU predictions for most people. The first week can be difficult to predict metawise because many of the teams have their own playstyles and strategies that they’ve been practising. It’s all about whose meta is the strongest and usually that will dictate how the rest of the teams adjust to it.

Team Dignitas vs. Tricked Esport - Sunday, January 21st at 9:00 am PST / 6:00 pm CET

For Team Dignitas, their versatility in their hero pools will allow them to have a very confident draft phase and will make it difficult for other teams to ban them out. As far as the meta is concerned, we will have to wait and see if Team Dignitas decide to utilize the possible strength of Hanzo and if their favourites such as Greymane, Genji, Lucio, and E.T.C. will continue into this new season. Will some pocket picks appear in the first week? Less popular Heroes such as Cassia and Tyrael may also make appearances in the Team Dignitas drafts. The first week is always one of the most exciting as we get to see a clash of new metas and new ideas as teams test out their scrim strategies.

Team Dignitas’ HGC Preview: Week 1

What we can assume about the new meta is that mages will definitely be involved. It’s difficult to pass up their high burst damage and combo potential. Both Martin “Crozzby” Rugh and Vilhelm “POILK” Flennmark excel on mage heroes but can also play the ranged auto-attackers for their team. POILK has proven himself on mage heroes such as Gul’dan with amazing Horrifies to catch out the enemy team and his Tracer is a menace to enemy squishies. POILK also has his trademark Chromie, a less popular mage pick, but one that he plays with extreme confidence, able to land nearly every spell.

We got a good taste of what POILK is capable of at GCWC, but it has been a while since we’ve seen Crozzby in action. Gul’dan was a staple pick for Crozzby last season, as was Li-Ming. For POILK, Greymane was a more common choice than Li-Ming, who has fallen out of favour as of late. Another popular pick for Crozzby, Valla, has also fallen out of popularity.

New metas will possibly bring new Heroes to play for both of these players. Composition wise, we may not see as many auto-attack heroes as we did during the double-support meta days. Mages will most likely stay strong, and we’ll have to see how the Flex and Tank meta falls into place.
