Interview with dignitas/pimp prior to Dreamhack: "I’d say we are better pepared than we would have been with Schneider."

We caught up with Team Dignitas CSGO player Jacob 'Pimp' Winneche prior to the Dreamhack event this week to talk about the team form, the recent roster changes as well as the upcoming Dreamhack major!

 

Was the departure of Schneider a sudden departure or was it anticipated?

Pimp: The departure of Schneider was obviously not something we had planned. Many different factors played in the final decision, but in the end it came as a surprise so close up to the major itself.

What kind of an impact has this departure had on the team?

Pimp: It forced us to quickly find a replacement in form of Tenzki. I’m 100% convinced that with Tenzki we already are a better and more well functioning team than we were with Schneider. It mainly comes down to the fact that TEnzki is Danish, he knows how we want to play, and he follow orders and communicates really really well with all of us. Also he is an excellent teamplayer, which is something that is very hard to find now days, last time I played with a real teamplayer was with Nille.

As a response for Schneider's departure the team has acted fairly quickly to replace him with Jesper "Tenzki" Mikalski. What was behind the decision of picking him?

Pimp: As mentioned above Tenzki is a real teamplayer, and a player we all like. We had a few names on the board, but tenzki was in the end the player we wanted the most, and luckily we got him!

What kind of an impact are you anticipating Tenzki will have on the team and on your performance at Dreamhack?

Pimp: I think it will give us a better chance doing the impossible, and procede to top 8 from what I’d say is the hardest group at the major. He gives us some of the abilities that we lack off, and I feel confident, that 4 of from the old-core so to speak will step up, and do whats needed in order to win and procede from the groupstages.

Personally you have been performing strongly and consistently, what has boosted your performance?

Pimp: Lately I’ve been playing in a totally different role that the one I’m used to. I play with the AWP a lot of the time, and all my spots are new for me. Spots I have never played in any competitive team, so it's quite new still. I think it's going decent, I feel the positions I got match what I offer a team fairely well, so that is might what is reflecting in my performences.

The team overall has been performing well recently. Did Zonic's addtion as coach have a big impact on that you think?

Pimp: Still early to say, as Zonic haven’t been with us for that long. Our first impression is that he helps us a lot, and so far it seems like a great match. Though I would say that we need to wait a bit more, before we can make a decisive answer on that question, but so far it's been great.

We've seen a large improvement on Kjaerbye lately, is this the result of individual coaching sessions with him or a group effort?

Pimp: It comes down to Kjaerbye as an individual. He is still young, the youngest player at the major, so he still have a lot to learn. With that said, he constantly improves, and I believe its only a question of time before he starts to shine on the big scene as well. Its not a secret that he has had some troubles lately on LAN, but I feel sure about that’s something he can overcome, he fights for it, and that’s in the end all you need. Know its only a question about time, before he realeases the immense talent he has.

You have switched to AWPing as of the departure of Nico. Have you found it hard to play as the main AWPer and are you going to remain the main AWPer?

Pimp: Its really hard, as I mentioned its totally new for me, all positions are new, so it takes time to learn I guess. I will remain the main AWPer if that is what the team feels is the best option for us. In the end we play to win, and if we figure out that I need to go back in my old role, or change something up, then I’m more than prepared to do that as well. I’m very versatile in the way I play, so it’ll be fine.

Team Dignitas will be going to the next major event in Romania at the end of the month. Do you believe you can make it out of the group stages and into the legends slot?

Pimp: I believe we have a chance, but its going to be really really hard. We got as I said possibly the hardest group that we could get, so it’ll take something extra to make it happen this time. Despite the fact that we only have been playing with Tenzki with a week, is not something that goes in our favor, but still I’d say we are better pepared than we would have been with Schneider.
