High-level competitive play has seen a staggering amount of building camping and using them to your advantage as soon as the new circle has been deployed, leaving outside areas like hills and fields empty. With this increase, it's not only important to camp in those buildings but also to seize those buildings from a different squad. There are many different ways of sieging a building, some with a higher rate of success than the others. Let's go through the best decisions you can take to siege a compound!

Sieging Buildings 101

Sieging from the Outside

This is the most used method and also has a high chance of succeeding.

When you're at a building like the one shown below, it's smart to sneak towards it. Listening to the enemies' footsteps is key and will increase your chances drastically, on top of that the element of surprise will also be present. Once you've figured out where half of the squad is positioned and can knock 2 out of 4 at the very least, you should throw grenades in the room they're currently occupying and the chokepoints/entrances to other rooms at the same time, cooking your grenade for a maximum of 2 seconds.

If you don't have the choice to go in silently, it's smart to distract the enemies' by letting them think you're going to use a Frag Grenade but cancelling the animation after a second and throwing a Smoke/Stun grenade instead, which will obstruct their vision and make your Frag Grenades extremely hard to hear/see depending on the type of grenade you threw first.

After knocking down at least one or more, you can go inside but try to not waste any time and run upstairs quickly checking all the corners where enemies could be lurking before entering the space where you knocked the enemy player(s). Weapons that are effective at short-range are obviously preferred and I personally find Shotguns/SMGs extraordinarily effective for breaching buildings if you know how to handle those kinds of weapons.

Sieging from the Inside

This can be a little more tricky to pull off, since there's patience, listening, and cooperation required from all of your squadmates including yourself.

The vaulting/climbing addition that got introduced in Patch 1.0 is making this method a lot harder since vaulting over fences doesn't make any noise currently, but their fall from the 1st-story is definitely hard to miss.

When you're sieging from the inside, it's less aggressive than you may think. If you don't have any vision of the enemy or clear openings to throw grenades through, it's not worth it to attack them head-on. You should instead wait patiently before they think they'll have to move or keep one squadmate inside while the others attack from the outside wherever they can.

If you want to stay inside, keeping angles on the staircase is key to pulling the odds in your favor since most times the defending side will have the upper hand when they're not hindered.

What Should You Do Without Grenades?

Having no grenades isn't ideal in the slightest, but there are other ways (except for killing people that are camping on a higher story). You can distract enemies by shooting and baiting them to peek at a window you think they'll likely be at. The same goes for using vehicles. Driving a little to the side of the building and then hiding behind it until someone peeks can be very effective.

Moving around a lot is very important in PUBG and footsteps can really make some enemy players eager to check it out and leave the points I mentioned earlier behind (patience and cooperation in particular).

Communication

Communication remains very important, and comes into play like any other coordinated attack that you pull off with your squad. But how can it help in these situations in particular? The first thing that's really important to keep track of while sieging is the cooking of your own and your squad's grenades. Talk about how to time the throws and how soon someone should press R to cook.

To potentially throw your enemy off, communicate with your teammates to time every single grenade differently. Throwing them in a chronological order of the pin being pulled is the most effective way of surprising the enemy. When going into different rooms or taking up each floor, determine preemptively which door you're going through and with how many people. Going off alone is a bad choice if you're playing squads but could be beneficial for duos! Silent movement can't be heard by your squadmates all the time. Inform them frequently but only if you have useful information that won't interrupt anyone else while providing your own information.

Conclusion

It may seem like I have only provided tips that you can use while being on the offensive side of a siege, but counteracting the points I made and adapting to the position that your enemies have taken can also help you while you're defending a compound. Practice makes perfect when it comes to these activities within PUBG and depend heavily on the skill and gamesense of your enemies and squadmates.

I wish you the best of luck and don't forget to prepare yourself earlier on in the game!
