A summary of the final played in WCS

Jaedong's Zerg play is arguably the best in the world, his impressive play took down Dear and Maru earlier in the tournament. One of his favourite units are his mutalisks, and he uses them to take down Protoss with vicious effeciency at a 62% win rate. The casters label him as the best reactive zerg player in the world, due to his microing skills. He didn't quite make it to the top last year, placing third.

Looking to take down Jaedong is sOs, with his worldly Protoss play. He plays well, and he innovates well. He's best known for his innovations, and many have eyes on him to see something new in the grand finals. Not only that, but he's articulate with builds, strategies and unit control. He's come far from last year, improving already on his 12th place in the previous season.

First map : Akilon Wastes.

sOs immediately starts the game off with a cannon rush, and then starts scouting. Jaedong's lone drone scuttles past both of sOs's probes while scouting, and he quickly grabs a spawning pool. The cannon rush forces a cancel onto Jaedong's first expansion, forcing him to quickly switch over to another area of expansion. Things continue smoothly, with Jaedong opting to get an early second gas, and into a fast lair.

The first major attack threatens to come from sOs, bringing in a mothership core, and several forcefields coupled with stalkers, but is detected and quickly retreats.

Jaedong's army has manifested quickly with three vipers and knocks on sOs's front door, taking down two colossi and heavily damaging to other units in his army. At the same time sOs has launched a counter-attack on one of Jaedong's expansions hoping to bring it down. Jaedong is able to react in time to very narrowly save the hatchery.

Once again Jaedong inflicts a blow to sOs, taking his army up to his expansion and killing another two colossi while cancelling the fourth expansion. sOs reacts with taking an expansion off of Jaedong, and both players return to building up their armies with Ultralisks and Pheonixes, giving the upperhand to Jaedong. At this point in time Jaedong has outmanouvered sOs and has five bases to sOs's three.

Skirmishes break out across the entire map, with corruptors taking down several pheonixes but sOs takes the skirmishes to a higher level and runs firmly to Jaedong's base. Jaedong, however, does a base trade and then reacts to sOs's force inside his base. sOs at this point has killed three out of Jaedong's six bases.

Jaedong is struggling against the onslaught of sOs's army as they move across the map. Lacking several critical buildings and losing skirmishes, Jaedong calls the gg and surrenders.

Second map : Derelict Watcher (TE)

sOs goes with what works for him and what works is another cannon rush. Jaedong reacts, however sOs locks himself into a small area of Jaedong's base where drones are unable to attack him and his cannon rush is successful as a result. sOs is rewarded with a cancel on Jaedong's expansion and two drone kills. Jaedong takes both of his gases yet again in response to the cannon rush.

sOs constructs three warpgates and double stargates. The warpgates use the same pylon that empowered his cannon rush and bring in Zealots to Jaedong's main base. Heavy damage is inflicted with sOs bringing pheonixes to maintain heavy harass. Jaedong's mineral income is hit hard as he is only able to mine fully from one base.

Another bout of zealots and pheonixes enter Jaedong's base and the heavily upgraded pheonixes wipe out the corrupt0rs. Jaedong's base is decimated and he surrenders shortly afterwards.

Third map : Whirlwind

The game starts, and this time sOs chooses to not go with his aggressive cannon rush. He plants a probe on the other side of the map and everything else continues as normal for now.

sOs uses the far probe to create an expansion hidden from Jaedong while at the same time mounting a skirmish. Void Rays are sent out to one of Jaedong's expansions and inflict some minor damage. Jaedong sees sOs's fourth expansion, still not having found his third, and forces a cancel. sOs quickly builds another nexus there with Jaedong returning to attack it shortly after. sOs sends his Void Rays to defend it and Jaedong immediately reacts with sending mutalisks to sOs's main base, destroying key buildings before they're able to complete their research on Storm and Speed.

Skirmishes break out across the map with sOs forcing Jaedong back. Jaedong creates a diversion in sOs's fourth base with several Zerglings and sends some more Zerglings into sOs's main base. Some clutch Zealot warp-ins prevent Zerglings being able to enter the base, and are quickly eliminated.

More skirmishes occur, with Jaedong winning the air battles due to his large amount of corruptors, but sOs's Archons are too much and quickly destroy Jaedong's ground forces.

Jaedong returns with roaches and infestors, winning a skirmish and destroying large amounts of sOs's army, sending the rest running. Jaedong, realizing he's winning the air battle heavily, builds seven Broodlords and mounts an attack on sOs's fourth expansion. Winning the battle, he sends re-inforcements in the form of 27 Mutalisks and claims the third match as his first win.

Fourth map : Polar Night

The fourth game commences and sOs sends a probe immediately over to Jaedong's fast expansion, builds a pylon, only to cancel it a few seconds later and run off. sOs then builds a very early robotics facility and starts to build a Warp Prism and then churns out Immortals.

The Warp Prism flies around Jaedong's base for a while before assembling outside and warping in more units being joined by the Immortals that were created in his base, and rushes to Jaedong's base to quickly decimate all of his forces and claim the very early game from Jaedong.

Fifth map : Frost

Both sides start the map playing a safe start and early Zerglings manage to find sOs's scouting probe before it manages to find Jaedong's base. The Zerglings then chase the probe down to sOs's base before being blocked out by a freshly-built cybernetics core. sOs starts playing a lot more defensively this game and does not have that many units in Jaedong's base compared to the last games. A few Pheonixes, however, do appear in Jaedong's base and do some minor harass. A pylon is erected shortly after very close to Jaedong's base, and multiple Zealots are warped in and run straight for Jaedong's base. There are very little units to defend against the Zealots and Jaedong has to pull Zerglings to defend against it but not before 11 drones are lost.

Jaedong attempts to apply some pressure back to sOs but by the time his handful of Zerglings arrive, sOs already has a Colossus and Jaedong has to back off. sOs's pylon is detected shortly after this and taken out.

A battle breaks out in the middle of the map, the corruptors focus down the Colossi but the Stalkers overwhelm the entirety of Jaedong's army and decimate everything in their sight with Jaedong surrendering before sOs even has the time to finish off his army.

Congratulations to the winner!
