A look at what makes HomeStory Cup great
HomeStory Cup is a unique tournament in many ways, where some tournaments have been coming under fire for mistreating it's players. This is a tournament ran by the players, for the players.
Being broadcast from TaKe's apartment in Germany, it will be cast partially by RotterdaM. However, the HomeStory Cup is unique in how the players often cast in between matches, this varied line up of faces you wouldn't see behind the microphone otherwise means that often one of the most interesting facets is who is casting and how well they're doing. Hits in the past such as Grubby, MC and MarineKing to name a few have all sat behind the mic to offer a progamer insight into the action we see, as well as being hilarious and entertaining.
Due to it's 31 spot invitational format, the HSC always offers a hugely varied mix of players, allowing us to see matchups we are fortunate to see as they would not happen otherwise. Of course there are the Korean favourites such as MC / MKP / MMA and Symbol, but it also includes a depth of European players rarely seen in other tournaments. With a lot of the more popular European players at the tournament it's always a popular place to see the next era of "foreigner" hope against the Koreans.
Intelligently the organisers have distributed the invites so that the prevelant trend of ZvZ finals we see looks less likely. With 14 Protoss, 9 Terran and 9 Zerg at the event, the races are evened well and should make for some interesting matchups.
In the end as good and entertaining as the matches will be, the gameplay almost takes a backseat role in a tournament such as HomeStory Cup, as the entertaining and casual nature of the organisation provides viewers with a great atmosphere to get a bit more involved with the players, and see more of their personalities through the commentary booth.
You should watch because the HomeStory Cup is a one of a kind tournament. The warmth and humour that it's presented with is guaranteed to entertain and it's a great opportunity to see some unusual names commentating, and some different matches as the best of Europe clash with a few incredible Korean names (Did I mention MMA is returning post-SlayerS drama?).
All in all it's a great tournament that thoroughly deserves its place as a cult fan favourite and I hope you join me in watching and wishing BlinG good luck!
