Protoss Dark Templar and Hallucination Warp Play
Sometimes it’s difficult to attack the enemy base that is up a ramp, since they might have had it walled off or even have Sentry waiting to forcefield the ramp that prevents your units' advance. But how about not entering the enemy base through the ramp, but instead warping units directly into their base? In order to achieve this, you’ll need to have vision on the high ground, but Protoss would need to go down the Robotics tech tree and get an observer in order to present vision on the high ground. In this case, Hallucination can replace that problem.
During a WCS Asia match, where a game between LiquidHerO and SKTT1 Rain took place, it was said to be first used by Rain, but that was the first time I saw HerO use it instead. So HerO created a proxy pylon near the enemy base and ended up using Hallucination of an Phoenix to give him vision, so he could warp Dark Templars into Rain's base directly and harass Rain’s worker line with the Dark Templars.
This build is quite good if the enemy doesn’t have detection, it also gives the player a good scouting chance of the enemy base and also slows down their opponents mining timing if you’re able to hurt the enemy work line directly. What’s interesting about this build is it’s not just limited to Dark Templar usage; it gives players the chance to warp any type of units in directly to avoid the ramp that might be heavily protected by the opponent.
With Vision granted with the Hallucination Phoenix, now you can warp in Dark Templars
The bad things that might make this build not work would be if the enemy ends up finding the proxy pylon before the Hallucination could grant vision. So players will need to be sure to hide the proxy pylon well enough that it doesn’t get spotted easy. Another issue is if the enemy pulls out for an attack on your base, you'd need to build up a strong defense in order to stop the enemy from advancing.
Also, the player has to take in account that it takes Sentry 100 energy in order to create a Hallucination. So try to have a few Sentries already made on standby, so once the Dark Shrine is complete, the player can summon his Hallucination Phoenix to quickly scout and grant vision. Start warping in units the moment you have vision and start killing the enemy worker lines or key buildings.
Be sure that Sentries have energy saved up for the Hallucination Phoenix
In conclusion, this is an interesting build any Protoss players should give a try. It’s quite risky in many ways, but if you’re able to pull it off, you could just have finished the game or have caused huge damage to the enemy, which might end up giving you the lead or edge in the match. Good luck with your Protoss games and have fun trying out this new build.
