An interview with Root ToD: "Best unit in the game? Infestor."

Yoan "RootToD" Merlo was a primere WC3 player and swicthed to SC2 at its infancy. He has been on many teams like Fnatic and Millenium in his SC2 career. He is currently playing in the Razor House in California and is improving everyday while streaming. Expect him to have a break out tournament soon!

 

What’s your past gaming experience?

ToD: I used to play Warcraft 3 for many years as a progamer before picking up SC2.

What have been your biggest accomplishments in your gaming career?

ToD: I won a couple of tournaments in Warcraft, including IEM, WEG, on Starcraft I won the WCG Europe.

 

So your last tournament was the gigabyte invitation, how do it went?

ToD: It started out really well with the 3/0 win over SjoW but then i had to play Bly and nobody told him we were playing HoTS i guess cause he just turtled BL/infestor and still crushed me 3/1, then i had to play Dimaga for 3rd place and he found some pretty good strategy that involves swarm hosts, followed by infestors and corruptors in support i lost 1/3 aswell, i had really hoped i would do better vs Zerg in HoTS than in WOL but apparently it seems just as difficult.

 

What do you think went wrong when playing Dimaga?

ToD: I made a couple of critical mistakes and I wasn't used of playing vs. his style, I also think it is still extremely difficult to deal with Zerg as Protoss in HoTS, some of the major problems of the matchup have not been addressed yet.

 

What would you change if you were the developer?

ToD:I would probably change larva inject to start with, i still find it pretty insane that a Zerg could be maxed at 12min whereas a Protoss could have 135~140 supply at most.

 

What unit would you change?

ToD: Infestor i guess is the biggest problem for me, they come out with a fungal and can also poop infested terrans which are very strong in large numbers, both of their spell is insanely strong and quite game breaking vs Protoss.

 

What tournament are you going to play in next?

ToD:I might play in the upcoming MLG Dallas, but it is not sure yet, and later on i will be participating to the IPL in Las Vegas.

 

How have you liked root?

ToD: I really like it, the team spirit is like nowhere else! Now it’s time for Rapid Fire! I will ask you a few questions and you answer them quickly alright?

ToD: Infestor.

ToD: Always changes ... used to be Dota, then Hon, now maybe DayZ ?
