Let’s Learn Mech, TvZ.
First of all, what is Mech? Mech refers to using an army out of the Factory units: Hellions, Seige Tanks and Thors.
The First Step:
In this blog we are going to learn everything there is to know in the Mech matchup TvZ. Taking position, pressuring, upgrading, counter attacks and units but mostly the harassment.
If you are familiar with TvZ BIO, you may recognize.
Early Game:
There is massive amount of different choices to start the early game with. These are my Top5 Openings:
1. Hellion Reactor into Expand ( BUILD )
2. Marauder and Hellion Reactor into Expand ( BUILD )
3. Reaper into Expand ( BUILD )
4. Fast Expand into Mech Turtling ( FREE STYLE )
5. Banshee Rush into Expand ( BUILD )
Zerg Weakness: How do Zerg counter Mech/How do We counter back.
- Hellions is Zerglings/Bangelings worst enemy.
- Roaches are the counter to our Hellions.
- Seige tanks are the counter to their Roaches.
- Mutalisks are the counter to Seigetank/Hellions.
- Thors are the counter to Mutalisks.
- Infestors/Broddlords are the counter to our Mech army mostly.
- Vikings are the counter to their Broddslords.
I describe this whole scenario by pictures with early and late games.
Zerglings getting roasted by the blue flamed Hellions.
Our blue flamed Hellions is not strong enough taking a fight against these Roaches.
Seige Tanks and Hellions are defiantly the counter to the Roach and Zergling Army. Now our Zerg player needs to find another way to counter this.
Hellion Harassment:
I’ll show you how to control hellions really easily. The Hellion has 3 important jobs to take care of:
1. Harassment at Zerg Natural (Try to roll into the base killing Drones at Main/Natural)
2. Denied creep spread from queens
3. Map Control (Look for Zerglings to roast at the map)
After this scenario the Zerg player will most likely be producing Roaches to get rid of the Hellions. Now here is the important part of the game. Whenever a Zerg produces roaches from two bases they will try to hit a timing window to counter you. Remember to have siege tanks in position to actually have the defense of it. A lot of Mech Terrans fail their game at this point.
Mech Upgrades:
Always go for +1 attack vehicle weapons because Zerg is only strong once they are standing in range to attack your tanks. If you have the tanks well positioned, the Zerg will always run away because of the damage dealt by the splash of them tanks. Now my favorite is to go 2-0 upgrades then add one armory and go 3-1 then armor rest. But as I said, you can always add the second armory after 1-0.
Take Positions:
Attacking with your Mech Army all together is one of the hard steps. Maybe the Zerg gets one lucky timing and surrounds all your tanks while they are unseige and your hellions are not ready at all to deal with zerglings/roaches. You have to move SLOWLY. I mean SLOWLY as in SLOWLY. Hellion can always move fast because whenever they see something they can just turn around and you get the vision of where the Zerg army is on the Map.
Whenever you know you’re near them, always siege some in the very back because they can do a lot of damage if the zerg wants to push your army. The best way is to spread the tanks 3 by 3 in siege mode. When you actually do the push remember to spread your units. You don’t want the siege tanks to splash damage your hellions so don let the Zerg come to the part where you actually deal damage to everyone. This Is hard to explain. I'll try sort everything out in the next blog!
Economy:
Some say Economy is the key for Mech to win. I agree a little bit but it’s way to over rated. Keep the economy standard as you do in BIO style. People describe it this way because Mech units are expensive and hard to get 200/200 without a good solid eco. Keep it simple and be more of a harassment player instead. Roasting Drones have never been this much of a fun.
WHY IS THIS SO HARD?
Remember there are always problems to switch style with T from BIO to MECH. I know this was a very quick start of a tutorial. I'll show the specifiks in the next blog. This was more like the "intro" sort of to say.
