Smite is a team game meaning everyone on the team should do well. There are players that are clearly better than others in the game. However, players should not be expecting and relying to always be carried like they might be sometimes. I have played with people that carried before and I have friends that can carry. I cannot carry however, no matter how hard I try. This is why I tend to stick to tankier roles such as solo or support. I am constantly asked about why can’t I carry and this is simply because Smite is a team game. I am a very team based player and I expect my team to be able to do just as well, if not better than me. Some people might think that this is expecting too much, but if everyone tries to win games and doesn’t troll (because I have had quite a few trolls) then Smite would be a much better game to play.

Tip 1: Having Good Synergy

Teamwork is made up of 2 main elements with one of them being synergy. The most team based lane is definitely the duo lane (ADC and support) due to the ADC and support both needing to be on the same page about whether to go in for a kill, freeze wave or more. A lot of pro teams might replace ADC’s or supports in an attempt to have better synergy and ultimately do better in lane. These roles aren’t the only ones that need to have good synergy though. The jungler and mid laner also need good synergy for when to do mid camps, damage camps, and attack for ganks. This jungler and mid laner synergy is essential for the early game of the jungler and mid laner so that they can get the proper farm over their enemies. These are just a few roles where good synergy is clearly needed, but it would be ideal for the entire team to have good synergy so that you have good team fights and all focus down one person. This is why pro teams are undergoing so many roster changes. They want to find the perfect synergy for their team.

Tip 2: Communication is Key

The other main element of teamwork is communication. Many players don’t have good communication with their team and that is what kills a lot of games. Even doing something as simple as calling a 4 man rotation in solo lane can earn your team a tier 1 in duo lane and possibly a gold fury. In my early time playing Smite, I didn’t know what to call out and when to call it out. People would be frustrated when I played solo and I didn’t call a missing Tyr that appeared in mid lane. I learned what to call out and I’ve been finding more success in my games. Make good use of the VGS (Voice Guided System) if you aren’t in a voice call. This system gives the bare minimum communication any player should need when unable to talk directly to other players by just clicking “V” and then other letters depending on what you want to say. During one of my casual games back in season 2, my team used the VGS so much that you would rarely have a moment that you wouldn’t hear “Enemy missing left” or “Enemies at the Gold Fury”. This is one of the only casual games I liked playing (without my friends) because it showed me how useful good communication is.

Hi-Rez has been promoting both of these elements of teamwork by having the VGS and now allowing people to triple queue for leagues conquest. The triple queue for leagues allows people to queue with more friends and therefore have more synergy. There are players that can carry their team to victory, however they shouldn’t need to exist if everyone had enough teamwork. By improving on these 2 aspects of the game, all players should have a much better time in their games and find themselves winning more games. Improving on communication comes with time and experience where as improving on synergy comes from creating a good mood with your team. Make some jokes or have a nice conversation in the lobby. Also, it helps to talk about what your play style is and when you want to make a play like tower diving or call for a gank.
