European SWC Tournament Wrap-Up
After battling for 10 weeks straight the Smite World Championship qualifiers the top four teams from each region will compete in a regional LAN for a grand prize of $50,000 dollars. The top two teams will take the prize as well as an invitation to the SWC European playoffs in November.
Cloud9 HyperX
Team Roster: EnQu, HalfDevil, Psyio, Suntouch, Youngbae
Total Points: 635
Breakdown 1st place: 3 2nd place: 5 3rd place: 0 4th or below: 2
The top 2 teams in Europe has found themselves in a constant back and forth for first seed. The closest division between points earned, C9 came out of top. Knocked-out of the first round by SNIPE, C9 was then eliminated by our own Team Dignitas in the Launch tournament. Since then C9 has undergone a number of roster changes, trading ADCs with TSM and losing their former support and solo lane, yet has still manage to compete with the largely unchanged TSM. Team Captain Psiyo boasts the highest average player damage during the SWC, beating out all others mid for the title, and proving Isis is still a solid pick in the mid lane. Psiyo was the also the only EU player to win MVP twice, in weeks 5 and 9. Newcomer HalfDevil found himself second to only JeffHindla winning MVP in week 1, securing every objective and eventually the win.
Team SoloMid
Team Roster: Gamehunter, Lawbster, Qvofred, Smek, TrixTank
Total Points: 620
Breakdown 1st place: 4 2nd place: 2 3rd place: 2 4th or below: 2
Our launch tournament winners, with a fancy Apollo skin (as well as a hefty check) to show for it, TSM is one of the strongest contenders in Europe. Consistently strong play from both the mid and solo lane have earned TSM a second place finish in the qualifiers. Smek tied his NA counterpart BaRRaCCuDDA for the best average KDA and finished just ahead of fellow teammate Gamehunter. If TSM plays at the same level we saw during the launch tournament, a shot at the $600,000 dollars prize is all but ensured.
Literally modeled after TrixTank. Seriously look at his profile.
Team Coast Blue
Team Roster: Korinyo, NinjaBoBat, PrincessTomato, ShaggyShenk, Variety
Total Points: 314
Breakdown 1st place: 1 2nd place: 1 3rd place: 2 4th or below: 6
Formerly Worth Gaming, Coast signed the newcomers after their former team dissolved after the launch tournament. A first place finish in week 4 interrupted TSM and C9 dominance briefly and earned midlaner Korinyo MVP. Equally worth mentioning was ShaggyShenk's MVP finish in week 3, which even through Coast finished in second, was the first European team to force a game 3 in the finals. Team Coast has proven they can compete on the same level as the veterans, but a first match against TSM may prove too much for the newcomers. Regardless of the LAN event I think we can expect great things from Team Coast in the future.
SK Gaming
Team Roster: Badgah, CaptainTwig, ManiaKK, Realzx, Zyrhoes
Total Points: 242
Breakdown 1st place: 1 2nd place: 0 3rd place: 2 4th or below: 7
SK Gaming had a rough time since the launch tournament. Former member EnQu was picked up by C9 after the departure of Xaliea and jungler PrOxyQQ was replaced with Zyrhoes. SK's SWC qualifier was a difficult journey to say the least. Failing to get past the round of eight for six weeks, SK then denied C9 another first place finish, taking home the prize and earning Realzx MVP. The latter weeks went better and SK found themselves tied with I5 at the end of week 10. A commanding victory in the tiebreaker round earned SK a chance at the $50,00 dollars prize as well as a chance to to beat former member EnQu for the second time since his departure.
Post-LAN Edit:
Congratulation to SK Gaming and Team Coast Blue. Both teams performed admirably at the finals in Cologne and have secured a spot in the $600,000 dollar World Championship tournament in Janurary.
