Playing Artemis in the Hunter role

Artemis is a hunter so her role is to play in the duo lane and essentially farm whilst the support rotates around the map securing objectives and helping other players. Artemis very much excels in this role due to her strong damage output and great poke to zone enemies out. On top of this she has a great escape, root and movement/attack speed steroid. Many of the top players such as Steven 'Zapman' Zapas play her very consistently in competitive play.

Playing Artemis in the Hunter role

Abilities

Still Target - Passive

Artemis gains a 5% critical strike chance buff on each successful hit within 4 seconds. Her passive has a maximum of 3 stacks.

Transgressors Fate - 1st Ability

Artemis places up to 3 traps. Enemy gods coming within 5 feet of her traps activate them, rooting and crippling the enemy god for 2s, preventing movement abilities and dealing 25/40/55/70/85 (+30% of your physical power) damage every second for 3s.
Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana.
Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds.

This can often be your second priority in levelling as its cooldown will decrease significantly as it is levelled up

Vengeful Assault - 2nd Ability
Abilities

Artemis attacks at a furious pace, increasing her attack speed by 35/45/55/65/75% and movement speed by 20% for 3/3.5/4/4.5/5s.
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana.
Cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14 seconds.

This you will usually only get one point in early game purely for the movement speed as an escape. However, if you wish to increase your attack speed for poking players, killing waves or killing towers then this is a good pick to level up.

Suppress the Insolent - 3rd Ability

Artemis fires a volley into a ground target, suppressing all of her enemies. Enemies caught within the volley are damaged by 90/150/210/270/330 (+50% of your physical power) and slowed by 25% for 2s.
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.

This is a priority to level up as it provides lots of poke, especially on weaker targets and gives a good slow that can help you catch your opponent or possibly put a Transgressors Fate at their feet

Calydonian Boar - Ultimate

Artemis summons the great Calydonian Boar to wreak havoc on her enemies, doing 150/225/300/375/450 (100% of your physical power) damage to the nearest enemy god and stunning them and itself for 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5s. The boar continues to charge other gods for 6s. Artemis is also immune to crowd control for 3s.
Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 mana.
Cooldown: 90 seconds.

This can act as your last resort escape usually. It will grant CC immunity for 3 seconds which is the equivalent of using Greater Purification and the Boar also will give you the chance to get away with its stun. It isn’t neccessarily your highest priority to level up but is worth doing so when possible.

Build

Artemis follows the same build most hunters build, the reason for this is hunters do pretty much all of their damage through their basic attacks in the late game which is where they are strongest. Usually you will want to begin with Death’s Toll and Spiked Gauntlet, this will grant some lifesteal and give mana regen from basic attacks due to Death’s Toll. You will have 50 gold spare after that so go ahead and buy a mana potion for when your mana buff runs out.

As soon as it is possible, go back to finish Devourer’s Gauntlets in order to get the stacks early on. After this begin to build into Warrior Tabi. At around this time it’s a solid idea to get Sprint at rank 1 because it will be pretty much Artemis’ escape mechanism in an attempt to save the boar from being used for an escape. The next item to build is The Executioner.

Now it’s time to get your critical chance items. First get Rage, it will work amazingly with your passive and with use of Vengeful Assault, you will be critting almost everyone now. Next you will want Deathbringer, this is where your crits really come online. You should now be able to pretty much 3-shot weaker gods like mages and other hunters but even tankier gods won't be able to stick around for long and especially not against Artemis with how strong she is in the late game.
To finish off you will want Titan’s Bane for more penetration which should help you take down tankier targets for instance Hercules and Chaac as well as full-on guardians like Ymir.

Active wise you will finish with Greater Sprint and probably choose between Greater Aegis, Greater Purification and Aegis Amulet. It is a case of looking at the enemy team and deciding which one will suit better.

Playstyle

In the early game
Early on Artemis doesn’t really shine as much, however, her Suppress the Insolent will allow you to slowly poke down your opposing hunter whilst you try to clear the waves of minions. Try to get last hits, this will help put you ahead in farm. Also, when your opponent is away from the lane try and starve them of farm by leaving the waves to kill each other and just getting the last hits. Keep putting traps in the entrances to the jungle, this will give you time to consider how to get away if you are about to be ganked and can provide you with a rooted enemy for an easy kill. You should be able to play the early game quite agressively if you can poke well with your Supress the Insolent but remember to back out at around 2 minutes 10 into the game to avoid a gank from the jungler who will be on your side of the map getting their buff.

In the middle game
At about middle game Artemis should have up to Warrior Tabi built and should be able to hold her lane against the opposing hunter as the supports rotate for camps and so on. It should be slightly difficult to box with Artemis because of her passive but be careful in doing so. As you farm in the lane just remember to zone out your opponent and keep the jungle warded and your traps on the entrance to the lane so that ganking becomes harder for the other team.

In the late game
Artemis will shine here, you should now have your crit items up and running and will be very dangerous in teamfights. Artemis is great for killing off towers and objectives and will have the capability to poke very hard if not kill enemy players very quickly. Stick with your team and use the Calydonian Boar in situations that will result in enemy deaths or to save yourself or team mates. The boar can wreak havoc when it comes to the enemy team getting caught out at the Fire Giant of Gold Fury. Try to stay behind team mates in order to not get picked off so easily and take care that you don’t die easily as you mean a lot to a teamfight.

Tips
- Artemis may have her few escapes but she's very simple to catch. Remember that you can place traps as you run as this can save your life very efficiently without the waste of a boar.

- Sprint and wards are your best friends - make sure you use them both to maximise your survival

- Try not to get caught out on your own (especially in the late game). Artemis is very easy for a team to pick off if they know what they're doing so try to stick with the team and avoid getting caught.
