I sat down with Counter Logic Gaming's substitute ad carry, Yoona, about life as a substitute/streamer and how it has affected his life for the better. Yoona is a high elo AD Carry that went to MSI with Counter Logic Gaming as their substitute.

How did you get your start in League of Legends? Which Champions really helped you climb?

Yoona: I got my start in league in high school. A lot of my friends played and thought it be fun if I joined as well. The champs I've had the most success with this season are Jhin and Lucian.

So how were you able to get picked up by counter logic gaming as a substitute?

Yoona: I got picked up by counter logic gaming because I already was friends with a good majority of the staff and was the slightest bit known of being high elo.

An Interview With CLG AD Carry Sub & Streamer, YoonaYoona's CLG portrait taken from Riot Games

Has life become any different ever since becoming a sub for CLG?

Yoona: Yeah I play a lot more solo q, stream a lot more , and attend every single one of clgs LCS games. Life got a lot busier!

On the topic of attending all of their games, what was it like to go to China and watch your team play? Do you ever sit there and you wish you could be on the stage? How exciting is it to think that you could possibly attend the World Championships?

Yoona: It was pretty cool I got the inside look at how CLG plays. I watched every single scrim and every single game. It really inspired me to get better at the game and it made me respect pros even more than before. One of the best experiences I've had in my entire life. I don't usually wish I could be on stage playing. I never truly wished to go pro. Until recently where the though of trying to go pro is something I've been thinking about. I'm excited because I know that possibility is a reality. You'll see CLG at worlds without a doubt.

Yeah I definitely agree with you. CLG has a lot of championship points to go with their current rise as a top 3 team. Do you ever fill in for Stixxay during scrims or are you only used during a dire situation?

Yoona: Nah I'm only used for situations where Trevor would be unable to play.

What are the key differences that you can see between a substitute AD Carry and a starting AD Carry? Is there a huge mechanical barrier between you and Stixxay?

Yoona: I think mechanically I'm almost as good as stixxay but the huge difference is the macro side of competitive in which he definitely is much better than me.

Okay that is good to know. Do you believe a player, primarily an AD Carry, can enter LCS/NACS right away if they are only mechanically amazing?

Yoona: Yeah to a point but if he doesn't learn the macro aspect of the game than he will surely get smashed by the better LCS/NACS teams.

So previously, you stated that the thought of going pro is definitely there. Did streaming become the main focus because being pro was unrealistic before? Or was it for another reason like entertaining people? I personally love your duo's with Bunny btw

Yoona: It was a combination of my desire to go pro just kinda died out and part I just love all aspects of streaming! Streaming has made me a happier and more motivated person. Also thank you so kind :3 <3

If you were in the LCS, where would you rate yourself mechanically amongst the LCS and NACS AD Carries?

Yoona: Hmm I'd rate myself pretty low in LCS but in NACS I'd probably put myself more mid tier.

As a sub, what do you think about LCS teams with a 10 man roster like TLA and Apex Pride? What do you believe are the strengths and weaknesses of a 10 man roster?

Yoona: It feels pretty weak imo I don't think any team has done any good with a 10 man roster maybe TL a little bit.

So that probably means you do not believe every team in the LCS should have a 10 man roster? Why does it feel weak to you?

Yoona: Nah I don't believe every team should have one it feels weak because usually within the 1st 2-3 weeks only 5 players are chosen to play for the rest of the split.

Yeah that makes sense. It is sad to hear that it does not work because it seems like such a unique concept and strategy. If Counter Logic Gaming were to bring back their Black team would we see you as the starting AD Carry? Does CLG have plans to bring back the CLG Black Team?

Yoona: Maybe I do have interest in joining the team but nothing official or talked about yet.

How has being apart of Counter Logic Gaming helped you progress your League of Legends career? How would League of Legends be different had you never joined Counter Logic Gaming?

Yoona: it helped me motivate myself a lot being under such a prestigious brand I wanted to push myself more as a player and a persons. If I never joined CLG gaming I think I would be a lot less happy . I've made so many friendships and learned so many things I can't imagine myself never signing that contract.

That is great to hear that you think highly of CLG. I hope you continue to grow your twitch channel and name. Do you have any final words to your fans?

Yoona: Thanks to all the fans who never gave up on us. Who kept saying #CLGWIN even when the start of the season was one of the worst. Just know that you guys are the ones that make this all worth it . Also shout out to our sponsors Astro twitch IBUYPOWER and DXRACER always there and having our backs <3

Best of luck with streaming maybe one day we can do a more troll interview lmao
