Clubs: League is Harder Than High School

What are clubs?

Ever wanted to be on the basketball team, but you were too lazy and would rather do something online? Well clubs were recently implemented in patch 6.5, and serve as a little group for your friends. Think of them like a clan in an MMO or any other game, you can invite your friends and have a tag that represents your club! A player can be in a maximum of 3 clubs but they can only be a leader in one of them. Feel free to make a club and invite your friends or random players you found. Just note that there is a maximum of 50 players/accounts per club. The way club tags work are that you can have a tag that is shown in lobbies and in-game with 3-5 characters in the tag. A club must have at least 5 club members in the club in order to create a club.

What are the pros and cons of being in a club?

Well the honest truth is that there are more cons than pros. The way clubs in League work is the same way that high school and college work. The only real difference is that it's online interaction and being in a club isn't going to get you farther in your life.

Pros:

• Being in the same group with all your friends and socializing with them.
• Possibly meeting new people that you have never seen or met before on the rift.
• Having a more dependable group to play with and knowing who is online and who isn't.
• Being able to have a nice motto that has spice.
• Starting communities!

Cons:

• Anyone can see who has the same tag and find out who is queuing together.
• Being in a club does not mean anything for ranked
• Owner and leader of the club can abuse their powers on a member by constantly promoting or demoting a player.
• If someone is getting flamed and someone with the same tag is trying to defend them, they're probably going to get flamed even more.
• Clubs are really limited on multiple things such as the amount of clubs one can be on and how many people can be in a club.
• Being in a club with someone you want to socialize with does not mean you will socialize with them more or be seen any differently than other members.

Those are the pros and cons to being in a club. These can be easily avoided, however, by many things the game allows the player to do. The easiest and more individually driven way to avoid these cons, just don't be in a club. But let's say that you wanted to be in a club but didn't want people to see that you guys are a premade. The game allows you to switch what club tag you want to have on since a player is allowed to be in 3 clubs at once. So just make sure to change it to a tag that someone else doesn't have or can tell that you and your friends are queued together.

Another way that you can be in a club and not be seen is a premade is using the "Show Club Tags" option. It's automatically checked so make sure you turn that off if you want to be in a club and don't want other players to see your tags.

So join a club and talk to your friends! Or don't do that! The choice is yours to make. It's a nice thing that League of Legends has finally implemented and it has some functions that other games don't offer. But remember, while the rift is very non-violent physically, there are people ready to trash talk. League is like high school, but with a lot less physical work and some more mental concentration.
