Self Improvement: How A Positive Attitude And Helpful Advice Can Go A Long Way

Self improvement plays a huge role in gaining elo in League of Legends. Being able to learn from your mistakes and become a stronger force in games can give you the ability to solo carry hundreds of teams. For many people though, self improvement becomes very difficult because frustration, ego, and other negatives get in the way. In this article we’ll talk about how to overcome those issues and help you climb divisions.

Attitude and Behavior

One of, if not the most common issue that keeps players from improving, is their attitude and behavior while in game. It’s not a secret that League’s community consists of a lot of frustration, anger and flaming, and it’s never fun to be in a game with it. But, being the one exerting this negative attitude will not only bring your teammates down, but most likely lose you most of your games. Being able to control these emotions and not type in chat when frustrated can allow your teammates to play a lot better, and be less susceptible to tilting.

For people who are able to control their frustration and don’t release their emotions in chat, but cannot deal with the constant stress of other players, utilizing the mute button can do great wonders when playing. Not only does it block out the negativity in team chat, but it also prevents unavoidable retaliation. For some people, typing “/mute all” in the beginning of the game can provide a better experience.

Mechanical Improvement and Decision Making

It’s very obvious that the people of our community want the mechanics of the professional players. They see a crazy play on a livestream and want to replicate it in their games to show everyone that they mean business. But in reality, the pro players didn’t just gain their mechanics overnight. Most players would agree that watching replays using game recording softwares and analysing all of your mistakes will greatly improve your play in a very short time. Not only are you practically coaching yourself, but you have nobody to have arguments with because you are simply with yourself. Rewatching every to every other game will heavily improve both your mechanics and one of the most important skills in League of Legends, decision making.

Decision making is what makes up the majority of how good you are. Knowing whether you should all in your laner, when to roam to a different lane/start grouping, when to call for Dragon/Baron, all of these small things mean a whole lot in the long run. Understanding all of these tiny details can create a huge spike in terms of your power as a player in each game. With near perfect decision making, 1v5 carrying games is very possible, meaning the games a normal person would consider “unwinnable” due to other teammates not doing so well become easily winnable with patience and respect.

Using What You Have Available To You

There are countless livestreams and podcasts that many professional players have/do that can be an immense amount of help to you when trying to improve. Watching the players themselves talk and perform the actions they do in competitive games allows you to hear their mindsets behind why the did what they did (if they explain it), and seeing the small details like where they aimed the skillshot, how they moved their cursor, how they type to their teammates in chat. Utilize this, even take notes on what they say and do, then go over the notes before every game. If you’re serious about trying to improve to their level, learning from them is the best way to do it.
