Content Creator Spotlight: PeacePigeon

Hey everyone! Maleok here with a very special interview with PeacePigeon! PeacePigeon is a League of Legends exclusive content creator who is known for his incredible editing skills. Having only been active for just over a year PeacePigeon has accumulated over a quarter of a million subscribers. For his very first interview, he has agreed to have it with Team Dignitas!

In your own words what would you say your occupation is?

PeacePigeon: I'm going to give the very cliché answer. *laughs* I am a full time League of Legends content creator.

Your style of editing is very unique, what gave the the idea for it?

PeacePigeon: The origin of my style is actually from inspiration I drew from UberDanger. I quickly learned new techniques, bought new plug-ins, and slowly but surely grew into my own style. I think if you went and watched "Casual League Ep. 1" you can see the clear similarity to UberDanger's style. However if you were to watch episode 20 of that series it is definitely something innovative and new.  

Do you have any previous editing experience, or did you learn on your own?

PeacePigeon: My dad is an Editor/Film maker, so as I child I was always inspired by the whole video production world. When I was a younger a game came out that was basically Roller Coaster Tycoon, but instead you had your own movie studio which let you make your own Movies and videos. From that point on back in 2005, at the start of YouTube, I knew I wanted to make videos.

Why is League of Legends your game of choice?

PeacePigeon: I need to recognize a bit of coincidence here. When I had initially reached the point where I realized, "Oh S%!^ I need a job, I need to do something with my life!" I was playing League of Legends. At that time I didn't know how big of a game League of Legends actually was. I simply started making videos about the game my friends and I were playing at that time, which was League. I had a very god awful laptop at the time which was barely able to record video. Luckily enough MachinimaRealm recognized my content and gave me the opportunity to start a show on their channel.

Are you the only person who works on your video production?

PeacePigeon: In terms of editing, I do everything. As for my ideas, my team, "Obamacare (OBC)", plug ideas into the chat. However realistically the majority of the work is just me. I would say this is my full time job but it is actually my life. I literally don't do anything else. I wake up, sit behind my computer, play League of Legends, edit, eat, and sleep. I don't know if this is healthy *laughs*. 

How long does it usually take from the conception to release of a video?

PeacePigeon: This obviously differs per video, but most of my videos take 20-30 hours of work. Almost all of my videos have a special and unique aspect about them, especially in terms of editing. It honestly just takes a huge ton of time. I don't like to do simple content. I want every video to be unique in it's own way, but that takes a lot of time. However at the same time it is a lot more satisfying which is why I do it. I want to look at my channel and say, "Wow these are videos that I made and I am proud of them".

What programs and software do you use for your videos?

PeacePigeon: I have a subscription on the Adobe Creative Suite, which not too long ago was impossible for me to get because I think it was something like 1,500€. But now you can actually get a subscription for like 60€ a month. So it's quite affordable and you get all the adobe software. I usually am using Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe After Effects. With those two editing programs I do everything.

Do you feel pressured to release your content regularly?

PeacePigeon: Yes, definitely. I think every YouTuber knows that consistency is the key to success. This is especially true if you want a committed fanbase. This creates a dilemma for my channel. I want to create high quality content, but the higher the quality, the more hours I need to spend, and with more hours per video comes fewer videos. If I wanted to make the most short term profit of subscribers, I could easily make much simpler videos and post two per week. Some fans would like to see that, more content, but for me personally that is not a satisfying goal. I don't want to make "Let's Play," videos. I really want to have this Michael Bay level of entertainment, which isn't always the most intelligent level of entertainment. *laughs*

What is the biggest issue you find with your content creation?

PeacePigeon: At a very early stage, finding non-copyright music was a problem. I had a lot of issues finding good music. Now that I have a good size in terms of audience and views it is less difficult. Music producers will now come to me and say, "Oh, could you please use my song?" Other than that I haven't really had many issues.

Do you think you will continue doing League of Legends content for a long time?

PeacePigeon: As long as I can do this for a living I will probably continue to do so. I mentioned I don't think I have the healthiest lifestyle right now, I'm a workaholic I would say. Also, and I'm not saying I want this right now, I would prefer the actual structure of a job. I would eventually love to work for a gaming company on a content creation team. I love what Riot is doing with the LoL Esports channel, I think that is amazing. How they do the player coverages, I think that is the way to go. I feel that I would really well into that team. Maybe one day I will do something like that.

You have been called by some, including Keyori and Falconshield, the last success story for League of Legends content. How do you feel about that?

PeacePigeon: I feel kind of flattered but also worried about that statement. I think that League of Legends is a game that is still growing and there will always be open niches to fill. For example, Gweedo who does, "Just Okay Guides", comes to mind. However I really don't agree with that statement, I certainly don't feel like League of Legends has see their last up and coming content creators yet.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to your fans and to those who haven't seen your content before?

PeacePigeon: First of all, to those who have not seen my content, I definitely think it is worth a shot checking out my content. It's definitely not for everyone but a lot of work goes into my videos so I would appreciate if you gave my videos a cheeky little peek! To my fans, I have come to know a lot of them and meet many personally, I really appreciate the fact that they appreciate the fact that I work really hard! *laughs* I really don't want to give a cliché answer but it's true, what would I do without my fans? I would live a life that wasn't for me, and they pushed me onto the right path.
