Patch 5.5 Champion Picks : Top 20 NA Solo Queue

Ever wonder what champions the top players in NA play? Then read on! In this post, we'll be looking at who the top 20 players in North America are as of 3/24/2015, their top 3 champions along with win percentages, and all their champions played combined with overall win percentages. But be warned. This post is more to provide interesting statistics rather than to be used as a tier list.

Note that this information is from patch 5.5 so expect a few of the win rates to change now that 5.6 has hit live. This list was created on March 24th, 2015 at 10AM EST. Data is taken from http://na.op.gg/ranking/ladder/

The first chart (above) provides information on who the top 20 challengers in North America are as of March 24th, 2015. It also displays their top 3 most played champions along with their win rates on those specific champions. The second chart (below) adds up ALL champions that have been played by the top 20 Challengers to get an estimate on each champion's overall win ratio in high challenger. In this chart, all champions are included except champions that have less than 10 games played.

Patch 5.5 Champion Picks : Top 20 NA Solo Queue

To clarify, this is NOT a tier list. This is designed to provide information as to what the top 20 players in solo queue are currently playing. Data is skewed due to multiple reasons, namely that some champions have been nerfed since they've seen play and also due to duo queue which inflates the win rates of ADC champions.

Lets talk about some of the more interesting information in these two images as well as some random facts.

1) Some of the champions with the highest win-rates have small sample sizes which is obvious. It's most likely those champion win-rates would balance out with more games played. Sorry hopeful Vladimir/Vayne mains!

2) Only looking at champions with at least 30 games played, the highest win-rate champions for each role is as follows. ADC: Kalista or Sivir (71% win rate). Support: Nami (33% win rate). Jungle: Sejuani (68% win rate). Middle lane: Katarina (70% win rate). Top lane: Irelia (72% win rate).

3) AD Carry champions generally have higher win-rates than other champions. This isn't due to AD Carry being the best carry role but more likely attributed to the data being skewed by incredibly skilled AD Carries such as Doublelift and C9 Sneaky being included on this list. In addition, many of the top AD Carries duo queue with a Support they have a lot of synergy with.

4) Ariana 22ROO has played more unique champions than any other player listed in the first image. Ariana has played a total of 57 different champions so far in Season 5.

5) Interestingly enough, Fizz and Nidalee, two champions that are considered --incredibly powerful-- champions have lower than expected win rates in this elo. Nidalee has a 52% win rate and Fizz has a 43% win rate.

6) Some data is slightly skewed due to certain players  playing specific champions a lot. For example, who is he is responsible for all the Diana games.

7) Other champions that have relatively high win-rates in lower elos (e.g. Amumu who has a 55% win rate across all elos) have lower win rates in this elo.

8) There are 73 champions on this list and 124 champions available to play in League of Legends. That means 59% of all champions in League have seen play in high Challenger. That's not counting champions that have less than 10 games played either so it's more around 65-70% of all champions.

Thanks for reading and I'll be creating a write up for other regions such as EUW and KR soon!
