Getting fit by combining playing with exercising

Healthy body = Healthy Mind

Many gamers know the problem of not having enough time and/or motivation to do something for their shape and end up feeling guilty to spend all the free time in front of the screen instead of doing something for their body.

According to Stephen ‘Snoopeh’ Ellis, former player of CLG.EU and Evil Geniuses, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. He started a campaign named ‘Get fit with Snoopeh’ where he used to do a small workout based on his performance during his previous games. His exercises were based on his kills and assists, doing push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups etc.

Snoopeh was able to motivate a lot of players to do these with him, or to do them based on their own games. While some did it with more effort than others, I think that overall it was an excellent idea to become a role model for other players and helping them to improve their health.

Unfortunately, the hype of body training has fallen off a lot and people tend to get back to their old habits. One thing may have changed though: The number of people watching the LCS has increased enormously over the past years and maybe Snoopeh’s idea of what to base the workout on should be changed from own games to the LCS games. However, I’ll make different workout lists, so people can choose what fits them best.

Different Types of Workout

Since in general, the European and North American LCS players tend to play a lot safer than you and your team in solo queue, it is just normal that there are less kills/deaths which leads to fact that the amount of repetitions is higher in LCS based wrkout than the amount based on your own games.

Workout based on your favourite team

First, choose your favourite team and then choose one player of this team. Every exercise you’re doing will be based on every single player’s performance and double the amount every time the chosen player is involved! I recommend doing these activities while watching as they’ll sum up to a solid amount if you’re doing them at the end of the game.

- For every kill, do 5 sit-ups while increasing the number by 1 for every assist gotten on that kill.
- For every death, do 2 push-ups.
- For every drake, do 10 squats and double this amount for every baron.
- For every destroyed tower and inhibitor by your team, do 15 sit-ups and double the amount once the game is over, no matter what the result looks like.

Workout based on every game in the LCS

- Again, I recommend doing these activities after each fight and not at the end of the game.
- For every kill, do 2 sit-ups while increasing the number by 1 for every assist gotten on that kill.
- For every death, do 1 push-up.
- For every drake, do 5 squats and double this amount for every baron.
- For every destroyed tower and inhibitor by your team, do 10 sit-ups and double the amount once the game is over, no matter what the result looks like.

Workout based on your own games (if you lose your game)

At the end of the game, do 2 sit-ups and 3 squads for every death of yours. Additionally do 2 push-ups per turret your opponent destroyed. Do only half of the amount if you got a teammate who disconnected without coming back.

Workout based on your own games (if you win your game)

At the end of the game, do 2 squats for every kill and 3 sit-ups for every assist. Furthermore, do 1 push-up for every destroyed turret by your team. Same here again, do only half of these if you got a person who disconnected.

Don’t overstrain your body!

Doing exercises is healthy but just like everything in life it becomes unhealthy once you overdo it. If you’re not fit at all, you may lower the numbers. Once you’re used to work out, you can increase the number of repetitions step by step to make them more effective.

Also, you may change not only the numbers but also the type of exercise. These are the activities I like most and I prefer doing something I like because it keeps me motivated. There are plenty of other exercises you can do if you like them better.

Getting healthier involves your consumption

If you really want to become fitter, you should consider improving your nutrition. It’s great if you start exercising but if you’re drinking 2liters of soda a day, combined with a lot of candies, it gets hard to get into a better shape. Also, you shouldn’t drink much alcohol since this does no good to your body and makes you feel hungrier, leading you to eat more than you actually would.

Let me know

What is your opinion on linking body exercising with a game? Did you change any of these activities or did you stick to my suggestions? Did you add some activities because it was too easy for you?
