Rengar, pro as heck guide

Pro as heck guide to Rengar

There are champions in League of Legends, and then there are pro as heck champions. Teemo and Garen are the reigning masters of the pro as heck champs in League. You should not, however, forget the other champs that fall into this category. Though he may get out-shined sometimes, Rengar walks amongst Teemo and Garen with his high skill cap and necessary mindset. The Pridestalker, while difficult to play, can be abused...

Back in the spring split of season 4, you may remember that Rengar was banned from pro play for awhile. The official Riot cover up story was that Rengar's Q could accidentally activate twice in a row. Rengar's Q did indeed activate twice quickly, but it was no accident. Since Rengar's release he has been the source of many bugs, along with his compatriot Olaf. Obviously, any champions played in the lcs tend to get picked in regular play as well. Riot didn't cover up Rengar quickly enough, and before long everyone knew.

Rengar may get played frequently, but do you ever see one played really well? Not often, that's why I've written this pro as heck, up-to-date, in depth guide to Rengar.

1. Rengar's item build

These are the four basic items I like to build on Rengar first. You should know what they do. Boots and the last item are up to you, although I tend to go with sorc-shoes and Zhonya's.

2. Clearing the jungle with Rengar

As Rengar it is best to start by invading the enemy blue with your E (bola strike). It is also best to do it solo, this achieves not only surprise but it proves you are not afraid of the enemy. Typically the enemy will already be there and waiting for you. Do not fear them. Go in anyways, they will most likely kill you. This is okay, as it puts them in the wrong mindset. The enemy team will think you do not know what you are doing and won't think of you as the threat you truly are. To help cement this train-of-thought type in all-chat "ugh my stupid team wouldn't invade with me, gg, [email protected], QQ". Now the enemy thinks your team hates you as well and won't help you, when they actually will.

After you revive, you should be able to buy a few more health potions. Move on to your red buff and ask for a leash. Most players typically won't help and might get mad at you for asking, but it is worth a shot anyways. Taking your red buff will not me difficult due to the heal you get from smiting it. When you level put a point in your W (Savage Roar). Then move on to clearing Krugs, this also shouldn't be a problem. Finally clear Raptors, note that these guys may kill some lesser skilled players, but if you have followed this guide to the letter you should be fine.

3. Ganking your lanes

Junglers have a primary objective, no matter who they are, gank and support your lanes. Rengar is particularly potent at doing so. Though the fragility of his strategy will easily leave him open to a counter attack if performed ineffectively. Often times you will see many inexperienced players activating their ultimate to sneak up on the enemy before pouncing on them. While this may seem like a great idea, it's actually quite the trap for novices.

Rengar's ultimate ability is best used from a vast distance, simply to cover as much ground as possible as well as build up his ferocity. Just watch the LCS, every pro player "wastes" their ultimate. The ones who do use it to ambush their opponents typically become the first target of the enemy, as well as left for dead by their teammates. That said, just how do you finish the gank with Rengar? Simple, once you close the distance and flash, immediately use your empowered bola strike. Bola strike is a tough skillshot to land, and most people can easily dodge it, but do not let it sway your opinion on the current progress of your gank. Most teammates will back off by now, but if you continue chasing, or even turret dive, you might get the kill.

4. End-game

After Rengar has cleared his jungle twice, maybe 3 times, he is ready to team fight at the drop of a hat. Rengar is best when he begins fighting dragon or baron by himself. The enemy team then shows up in an attempt to stop Rengar, usually killing him. Afterwards the allied team will try to finish off the objective, and they might just get it. But if your team was paying attention they will ambush the enemy team and score a few kills and steal the objective.

Remember this is all part of the plan to make the enemy think you are worse than you really are, continue with trash talking your team in all chat to help really set this in their minds. If the enemy won't take you seriously, they won't care if they don't play well. Thus you have won the mind games.
And remember, if anyone ever down talks your newfound pro as heck Rengar skills, remind them "you're just madcuzbad."
