Winning Champ Select: The Pick Comp

So last time we covered how to successfully perform a split push and build a split push comp, but now we will talk about one of the more popular comps (talking in organized play of course), the pick comp. A pick comp does one thing to win, force the game into late game and make picks to secure the win.

The main element of this comp is having a very high damage solo laner and a jungler or support with hard cc. Some of my champions for this are:

Riven: Let’s be real, you face roll as Riven and you just win. Get ahead early, you win even harder. Destroy your lane opponent before 10 minutes, you’re Faker 1v9ing.

Zed: It’s Zed. He jumps around nukes the back line and escapes. Nothing really to say about him.

Fizz: The slippery fish. He can easily jump in and apply wounds that deal tons of dps all while he procs his Lich Bane. And his shark hurts.

Orianna: Her passive allows her autos do to mad damage and her ball will keep them at bay or slow them down when they escape, and her shock wave does so much damage at lv 11 when the picks need to be done. Works very very well with Kha.

Vayne: If you meet a fed Vayne in the jungle you’re probably dead. The true damage Silver Bolts and Condemn will do is unreal, and not to mention her roll to keep up with you and dodge skill shots.

Leona/Thresh/Nami/Morgana: They just have some hard cc that makes engaging and picking very easy.

Kha’zix: Now he a different choice to pair with hard hitting assassins, and the fact that he is a hard hitting assassin makes sense. His isolation bonus makes his Q hit hard, and the ability for him to be invisible and pop up out of nowhere is invaluable.

Elise: Good cc, very flexible in what she can do and build, and she has the ability to stay with the target being taken down.

Now while the late game potential of a pick comp is very good, the early game may be a struggle. If you fall behind early, making picks may become hard due to low damage from having no items. But, if you can drag the game out long enough then you should be able to get back into it and wreck.  Just pick high damage assassins and some hard cc and you’ll be fine. Also remmeber that you'll need high vision and communication in order to make these picks.

If you don't have Kha'zix, I suggest a sightstone jungler such as Nunu to help with the vision and the slow from his E is always nice. Another alternative to high damage assassins, mind you, is hard hitting late game brusiers such as Jax or Tryn. Either way, the pick comp is very good, so tell me how you feel about the pick comp and how you feel about my list of champions for this comp on Twitter @chad_bubbles, and while you're there you might as well hit that follow button.

Until next time.
