Introduction
A common misconception is that to climb the ladder, it's purely based on skill and experience. While that isn't entirely false, there are many other contributing factors to get you those sweet League Points you need to carry with your quest for the top. A huge factor is attitude. Attitude can either make or break your team in many situations, and it's up to you to give your teammates a boost in morale when the times are rough, or the game just isn't looking too hot.
Good Attitude
"Humble in victory, graceful in defeat." This is my go-to quote when I play a game in League of Legends. Now lets be realistic. Not every game will you be happy with the outcome. You'll win some, and unfortunately you'll lose some. But it is everyone's job to not make a defeat worse than it actually is. Good attitude will help your team out a lot whether it seems like it or not.
Doesn't it feel great to get a "gj" from your teammates when you make a play or get an important kill? Believe it or not, the little compliments you give out definitely do make a difference for your teammates. Instilling confidence into your teammates will create a more relaxed environment or not only yourself, but also the four other players on your team.
Bad Attitude
"Flame is lame, enjoy the game." This is another quote that works perfectly with any game in general. Your teammate gives out first blood? Do not flame him. Chances are, he already knows his mistake and is going to be frustrated. The last thing he needs is someone yelling "gg noob mid" in all chat. Not only will it anger him and inhibit his gameplay even more, but it will cause tension with the rest of the team. In my games, if the enemy starts flaming in all chat, I will be sure to camp that person because the more frustrated they get, the harder it gets for them to make good decisions.
Conclusion
As easily as good attitude can influence your team in positive ways, it's just as easy for negative attitude to bring your team down and completely destroy your team's morale. It's up to you as the player to help your team keep morale high and increase your chances of winning the game. If you're about to consider making a snooty comment about your teammates gameplay, put yourself in their shoes. Would you feel offended? Would that comment anger you? If we could all manage to be a little more thoughtful of our fellow gamers, it would make the game a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.
