How Your Attitude Impacts Your Game

People have very different attitudes and mindsets when it comes to playing League of Legends. It seems like such a little thing when all you’re focused on is defeating and killing your enemy, but your attitude definitely makes an impact on your game results. In this article, I will be highlighting just a few of the ways how your attitude and mindset plays a part in your League of Legends experience, along with some advice that can hopefully help you along the way.

Positive Attitude= Team Synergy and Good Results

How Your Attitude Impacts Your Game

League of Legends is a team game. You have to work with strangers to accomplish a common goal. Along the way, there may be disagreements on how to get the results you need, but is blowing up and causing dissension among your teammates really worth it? No. Instead of raging when things don’t go your way, rallying your team together and keeping an optimistic attitude can go a long way when your team is behind, and it can often lead to your team coming back from behind and actually winning. It may seem easy to just lose hope and totally disregard your allies and cause conflict, but that isn’t going to help you and your team win games. It will only make things worse, so remember to breathe, keep calm, and stay positive!

Stay Humble

How Your Attitude Impacts Your Game

A lot of people play League of Legends and can’t wait to jump into ranked, climb the ladder, and rise to the top. When you win game after game and are in Diamond, it is easy to get a higher-than-thou attitude and act like you’re better than everyone else. However, that doesn’t make you a better player or a better person. Even if you are in a higher division, there is always a new aspect of the game to learn and improve on. Think of that when you play with people that are in lower divisions. Maybe, instead of lashing out at them over making bad moves, you can use your knowledge to help them in game, and if they make a mistake or screw up, provide constructive criticism and work with them instead of taking it all out on your allies. You were once a newcomer to League of Legends, too. Keep that in mind while playing and stay humble while doing so.

Have an Open Mind

You learn something new every time you play. The meta of League of Legends changes constantly. Thus, it is good to experiment with different aspects of the game. Try out different champions you don’t play. Experimenting with builds is also a good idea. Watching and observing pro player streams can provide valuable insight as well. These people have experience playing in the competitive scene and know what works and what doesn’t. While, to a certain extent, it is good to stick to what you know and what you are comfortable with, you will never grow as a player if you don’t branch out and try new things.

I have been surprised many times in game by players making some off-kilter choices that aren’t part of the meta or norm. Some champion and build choices may seem odd to you, but if applied correctly in the game, they can yield great results, do never rule anything out. For example, Ryze has been one of my main champions since I first started playing. I always play him in the mid lane. At the end of Season 3/beginning of Season 4, he started gaining popularity in the top lane. I absolutely balked at the idea of having a champion like Ryze up in the top lane attempting to go head-to-head against the meta tank champions like Renekton and Shyvana. However, I played some ranked games and observed some pro matches, and only then was I able to see Ryze’s true power in the top lane. With the right build, he can wreak havoc and just melt everyone. I would have never realized that if I just shut everything else out and not wanted to grow as a player. You can always discover new things, so always keep an open mind.

Never Give Up

When the enemy team is pushing into your base and towards your inhibitor and you’re behind in kills, it is easy to type “GG guys” into chat and just give up, but you never know what can happen. Who knows, maybe one of the enemy champions will overextend and your team can jump in on him and snowball that into an Ace, which can lead to an important objective, like taking Baron. You can then use the buffs you got from Baron and destroy some turrets and possibly push into the enemy’s base. The game is then back into your favor. Work together with your team so you can come from behind and take victory. Enemy jungler Evelynn keeps coming bot lane to camp and assassinate your Lucian and Karma? Then it is probably a good idea to use pink wards around tri-bush, river, dragon, and various choke points for some map coverage. If you and your team have good coordination you can turn the tables on Evelynn and help your lane get ahead. Enemy team full of AP-heavy oriented champions like Leblanc and Nidalee and they keep bursting you down with attacks? Invest in some magic resistance items so you can mitigate the damage they put out. See what’s working for your team and what isn’t and adapt. Anything can happen, so never give up.

You and your team’s attitude have a huge impact on the game, and it can determine whether you win or lose a game. It is easy to get lost in the game and not care, but you should be mindful of how you come across to others, especially if you want to succeed and do well in League of Legends. Nobody is perfect. You don’t have to have a flawless, robotic personality in order to climb the ranked ladder and be successful, but just be aware that your attitude plays a part in whether or not you and your team wins games.
