The Life of a High School Pro-Gamer: Tic from Parabellum Esports

Tic from Parabellum Esports is living the life that many people his age can only dream of. A high school student by day, Tic is a professional League of Legends support player by night. Recently, his former team Y-so Esports played in the Challenger series and placed 6th place, ahead of teams Curse Academy and vVv Gaming. Now he is a support player for Parabellum Esports, and looks to see more success as a professional gamer.

So in February, Y-so Esports was acquired by Parabellum Esports, and now you play the support on the team. What do you hope to accomplish in Parabellum Esports that you may not have accomplished in your former team?

Tic: Well, immediately when I joined Parabellum Esports I knew that this team loved winning and hated losing… which is not a bad thing. Our goals right now is to win as many tournaments as we can.

How would you describe your playstyle as a support?

Tic: Support may look easy from a spectators point of view but it is pretty hard. Your skills have to be used at the right time paired with your 4 active items. In terms of playstyle as a support, it’s usually me trying to see how ham I can go without dying. I like to push my limits and try out weird builds.

How do you cope with school work and League of Legends?

Tic: League and school for me is pretty hard to balance, especially when you’re a procrastinator, but I get it done. I get it done by usually just paying attention at school, getting all my homework done in class and then if I have any left I try to cram it in before I sleep.

It’s crucial to have good teamwork in order to thrive in games and that’s what makes League of Legends such a team-based game. How do you stay solid as a team? What do you do to build teamwork?

Tic: We stay solid as a team by having the same goals and desire to win!

What are some strategies that you’ve picked up from playing with other teams?

Tic: We’ve picked up junglers such as Wukong and Pantheon which are really good teamfighters.

What is your favorite support champion that you couldn’t play in the challenger scene?

Tic: Leblanc support!! She has good burst and has silences with chains, but people just don’t think she’s good as a support. People think she isn’t good because she does way better mid lane compared to support, which I guess is true. I still think she’s viable, though.

As far as League of Legends, how did you get into the competitive scene?

Tic: I’ve played a lot of soloqueue and people noticed me. Eventually I got an offer.

Heimerdinger is making a comeback, and we’ve seen him played in the EU LCS last week. What are your thoughts on him as a champion, and do you think we’ll be seeing him a lot more in the challenger series/ LCS?

Tic: Heimerdinger seems to already be getting nerfed so I’m doubting we will see him anymore. He’s a very cheesy champion that can have really high impact or really low impact depending on tower positioning and his items.

Recently the Aether whisp item and Forbidden Idol came out in the 4.5 patch—as a support, what are your thoughts on these items?

Tic: I haven’t played enough games to figure that out yet but it looks decent!

Thanks for the interview! Any closing statements or shoutouts?

Tic: Yeah, I’d like to give a shoutout to my sponsors Logitech, Battlefy, Gamefly, Gamevox and Kensington.
