The Noob Corner
Railz

Once upon a time, there was a summoner. He had just joined the community, and as such had absolutely no clue what he was doing. However, he had faith in himself, so he skipped the tutorial. His first game was played as Caitlyn, and the summoner was delighted to see that he did relatively well. He excitedly told all his high-level friends, and they decided to play a match together, just to see what was up.
It was an ARAM, and the summoner was given Annie. He had no idea who she was or what she did, but his teammates seemed to think she was powerful, so the summoner was content. He asked about starting items.
"You should probably start off with double Dorans or something..."
The summoner remembered his previous match. He remembered that item, browsed around, and finally...
He bought two Doran's Blades.
As you might have guessed, that summoner was yours truly. I am Railz, and this is the Noob Corner, where I plan to share my mistakes and non-sensical decisions. Today, we'll look at that match, where I truly was taken down a notch, although it was funny to see an AD Annie.
Why would I build an AD Annie?
Apparently Annie is a mage, and I know now mages shouldn't start with a Doran's Blade. They give attack damage (AD), whereas mages want ability power (AP). What I wanted was a Doran's Ring. However, I hadn't realized that yet, and happily built the same items I had used to great effect on Caitlyn. It took fifteen minutes before my friends noticed that my spells were doing absolutely nothing.
I have never liked using AP casters, mainly because I hate the fact that so much of their damage comes from abilities, not just basic attacks. Consistent damage is the name of the game, or so I thought. Things like mana and cooldowns? Why should I care if I don't even use abitilties? I'm so smart, I'm going to give myself a pat on the back! So, I went ahead and ignored the magic items. My build looked a little like this.
Let's think here. We've got some damage, attack speed, mobility, and some life-giving attack thing. This seemed like a winning list of items to me. Annie may be a mage, but she still throws fireballs, and last time I checked fire hurt. So, if I throw really powerful fire at a really fast speed, there really should be no way to stop me. Never mind that Annie's passive synergizes with using spells. Real men stick to their strengths. My strength is auto-attacking, so auto-attack I will!
Eventually they told me my build was wrong. I gave up and just bought six Doran's Rings. Then sold them and bought six daggers, just to show my friends who's boss.
We still won that game. I think it might have been from our opponents laughing their heads off at me.
If you've got tips, tricks, or stories you want to tell, go ahead and leave them down below. Lord knows I need them.
