Interview with Megazero on winning the PAX Spring Promotion Qualifier
After being relegated from LCS along with his former team, Team MRN, Patrick 'MegaZero' Glinsman found success as the top lane for compLexity Gaming. With the team's roster staying the same with the exception of their new top lane, compLexity strived to fight their way back into LCS, and began to dominate the challenger scene.
After winning the PAX Spring Promotion Qualifier against COGnitive Gaming, they now have the chance to face one of the relegated LCS teams, and earn their spot back. With the possibility of returning now very real, compLexity would be the first team to be relegated from LCS, and then qualify back into the LCS.
Everyone on your roster was relegated last split. How important was it for you guys to get back to the Season 4 Spring Promotion Tournament?
MegaZero: Qualifying for Season 4 is probably more important to us than other teams just because we know what it feels like to be in the LCS and we know that we want it more than other teams.
How do you think the competition will be?
MegaZero: The amateur scene is actually looking pretty strong and I think there are going to be some pretty good matches in relegations!
Now that you've clinched your spot, how is your team going to prepare?
MegaZero: We're probably just going to practice how we always have been, scrimming other teams especially LCS ones and looking at their matches. Since we know who we could possibly be going against, it's important we practice scrims as if we were playing against these teams.
What mistakes do you think you've learned from since last split?
MegaZero: Efficiency while practicing and overall game knowledge. When you watch replays, don't look at yourself and be like "oh i could've flashed that!" look at your entire team and be like, "we should've all been bot here, not fighting over red buff."
It appears that everyone on compLexity is close friends. What's the team morale like during games? How does the team react with each other?
MegaZero: Synergy is a huge part of a team as a whole and being able to communicate well! If you dont trust your teammates to take criticism then it'll be hard to fix problems. During games we help calm each other down and make sure we stay focused on the game while communicating our problems and how to fix them.
Who does the shotcalling for the team?
MegaZero: Pretty much everyone! People should always give their opinion. I suppose prolly and lautemortis do the main shot calling.
What was your favorite part of the PAX tournament?
MegaZero: It's hard to say! Between the amazing stage, super intense games, and the best fans.
If compLexity fails to get promoted to the LCS, will the team disband? Or with the growing challenger scene, will it be possible to stay around?
MegaZero: That's a pretty difficult question! I don't think we've really discussed it at all, but compLexity has stuck through the first relegation so maybe we will again!
How do you feel about the direction Riot is taking League of Legends? Do you think patches like 3.10 favor your playstyle?
MegaZero: Riot seems to balance around NA meta rather than Korean meta which i feel like is a slight problem but in the end as long as you keep up with the entire world meta it puts you in a pretty good position.
Overall, what has been your favorite experience in your tenure of playing League of Legends?
MegaZero: Probably meeting my first fan! it's like when I went to my first event, it was kinda eye opening how big what I'm doing is. Having all these people around me supporting me! It's kinda a surreal feeling.
Would you like to give any shoutouts?
MegaZero: I guess just shoutout to my family and everyone supporting me including my fans and compLexity's fans! And I should be streaming more now that we qualified for relegation if anyone wants to watch me!
