Ranked Diaries: Team Turtle
When playing in a game when only one of your players is fed and the rest of their team are pretty strong, it seems pretty slim that you're going to pull this one out. However if you play it safe and don't let the morale drop you can still pull it off. This is the first of a series where I will analyse games I play that I feel will help mid level players improve their game, both mentally and on the rift also.
In the game I'm going to go over and analyse, our jungler Hecarim is the only champion that has really got any bite in team fights and the other team have an extremely strong Malzahar and a Singed. This meant that they had a lot better team fight than we did, so the main focus for us, was to make sure that Hecarim could engage and do as much damage as possible. In my case as Ahri, all I was trying to do was charm the singed and keep him from doing damage for as long as possible within the team fights, I was also forcing my way into their back lines and trying to keep the damage away from Hecarim, kind of reversing my role as the AP Carry, as I was incredibly behind I felt it was smarter to help the champions that were doing a lot of damage while doing what I could.
The main issue we had was that the Singed was pressuring the lanes we were not on, split pushing top lane to the inhibitor turret and making our life harder, but we managed to hold the assaults and catch people out. The enemy damage dealers let themselves get caught out a lot, which gave us an edge that we looked to take advantage of.
Towards the mid game it looked very much like a loss, we had only inhibitor turrets on two lanes, and an inner on the other. It was making defending very hard, as their comp was very tanky and they had kills spread out really nicely among their damage dealers. We somehow managed to take a 3-1 engage on mid and pushed out all the lanes and began bringing pressure in the lanes back into our favour. Another advantage we took was the dragon. The enemy team was so focused on finishing the game that they left dragon without any wards or pressure so we took all of them in the mid game, this helped us catch up and start to do damage to their tanky champions. With one final fight taking a 4-0 near Baron, we took Baron and pushed the top and mid inhibitors. We did get caught out and a lot of us died but we had two inhibs and we were forcing pressure onto bot lane to finish the game.
The game overall was very well played by both teams, but with a lot of patience and good shot calling from the Hecarim we managed to turtle like never before, holding every assault on our base and then pushing them back, taking all of their inhibitors and ending the game with a win! This just proves that the game is never over until it is over, providing you have someone who can take out key champions, in this case the Hecarim. It takes one of the team to do damage, and if the rest support him well enough so he can carry, then the game is more or less always yours.
