After winning their spot in the european LCS back the former team of Copenhagen Wolves joined the scandinavian organisation Ninjas in Pyjamas. I sat down with their manager Stefan 'lucann' Nielsen and spoke with him about the changes for the team and his view on the next LCS Summer split.
You won the Summer Promotion games against Samurai in Jeans, how did you felt during the games, were the team afraid of SiJ, which were quite hyped before the matches?
Lucann: I was a bit nervous, but after seeing bans & picks I felt pretty confident that we would win this BO5. The team wasnt really affraid of the SiJ, they were a bit nervous, they had everything to loose, but all the hype actually just made us want to beat them harder.
What do you think about the next split? Will the competition be stonger due to three teams joining new with SNS,ATN and MYM?
Lucann: I doubt it will be stronger, I guess it will be like the first split, since these teams now have to figure out how LCS actually works, preparing takes alot more than now than it did before you join LCS.. GIANTS & Dragonborns lost on stupid things, and aAa was not that lucky with having to replace just before.. MYM will probably be the team imo that will do it best in the next split.
What do you expect from your very own team NiP in this second split?
Lucann: I want us to end top4, now that we will have a gaming house where we can play and not lose 2 days scrims a week cause of traveling, I believe this is a realistic goal. I want the team to keep developing, and this is the main goal, keep getting better.
You recently joined NiP after leaving Copenhagen Wolves, did this changed anything for the team? Since the name NiP is always contected with a bigger burden then CW?
Lucann: The only thing that changed for the team is that things will be done now, we will have a gaming house now, we will have better options to focus on gaming. Otherwise its the same, they contac me and I handle things for them.
What does it mean to you as manager, that the team is again in the LCS and that you are moving into a gaminghouse in Germany?
Lucann: Being in LCS again, is very important for the teams progress and for their own brand as a player. For me as a manager, having them in a team house together will make some things better, doing sponsor stuff, getting them to stream etc will become easier.. I will have to focus on helping them in the beginning since its first time some of them live away from parents.
Ok one more question to go about yourself you started as CounterStrike player years ago, and now you became manager of an League of Legends team, what was the point for you where started looking into LoL and what made you changing?
Lucann: Well after I decided not to play active anymore, I got asked if I would like to work in Copenhagen Wolves as a players director, being in charge of all the teams, finding new games to sponsor. I decided we needed a lol team back then cause the game was getting huge, and ever since this team has felt a little like my own baby, it keeps growing and just getting more exciting as it goes on. So when the team asked me to follow them to NiP it was a very easy choice.
Thank you for that insight on the NiP LoL team and good luck for the next split of the LCS, but at last I want to give you the chance to give any shoutouts you like or anything else you want to say:
Lucann: Thanks alot mate, I would like to thank NiP for having faith in this team, and would like to thank Telia, SteelSeries, Thor & BenQ for helping us reaching our goal.
