The benefits of understanding mentality in League of Legends

Before I get ahead of myself, I will say that having great mechanics such as last hitting really well, knowing when to tumble, and right clicking on things like a born-to-be professional, and of course having the common sense to not walk where you don't need to without vision will make you an above the average player. Now you may be saying:-

"But Goliath, if I'm super good at last hitting and I never facecheck, what more could I possibly have to learn before I turn pro this weekend?"

League of Legends is really a game about mentality above anything. You have to have your head in the right spot. Well, two right spots really; In the game, and in a positive mindset. The second you say GG when your bot lane gives first blood, it's over because you're no longer playing your best, because in your head the games already over. And it's not. So (only because I'm a super nice guy) here's a list of things to keep in mind that will definitely help you out on the Fields of Justice.

1. Why you should maybe be a nice guy in Champ Select

So this one is really the most crucial, and often the harshest part of the game. Eight times out of ten, you can almost always predict the outcome of the game based on how your team first interacts with each other. Sometimes you have to suck it up when you don't get the role you really wanted. It happens, sorry. But there's no need to do anything that will cause an argument. It's up to you to be the bigger person and try to be the glue that holds your ragtag team together.

Try your absolute best to keep everyone in champ select happy, and remind them that you're a team now, and you're probably spending the next half hour to an hour with each other, so it's best to get along now and make the whole trip a bit easier. And while it's not always easy doing that, it'll pay off 100 times when it works. Instead of the standard GLHF, I like to use my own GLHFBYDA (Good luck, have fun, and buy wards and don't argue).

2. Get inside the other teams head

This one is incredibly easy, because all you have to do for it is play the game really really well. You see, not everyone is going to read this little handy dandy notebook, and odds are, that other team is going to have some easily upset people on it. If you can absolutely dominate your lane and maybe even bait out a first blood, seven times out of ten that's going to spark a reaction on the other team.

If you can passively get them to start arguing you've done your team a huge favor. Now that they're all spending way more time having to type their arguments and counter arguments and taking a huge focus off of the game at hand, you've won the battle. Now go win the war.

3. Compliment your teammates. They're totes your bros, bro.

Coming in at the easiest thing to do to win ever, is number 3. You see, people like to get told they're doing well. People like that a lot. The first person you see do something well, let them know.

"Wow, first blood on Diana! Who taught you how to mid? Was it Scarra? It was Scarra wasn't it?"

It's sort of the opposite of insulting someone; well no, it is the opposite. Two different things happen when you insult someone, and then when you compliment them. When you insult them you put them under an immense amount of pressure to do better than what they were doing, and playing under constant pressure isn't fun at all, and odds are that their performance will steadily decline. But when you compliment someone you make them feel like they're doing really well, and they're going to keep playing at the level that they're playing at because they are going to want to keep impressing you. Look how easy it is -

"Were you born in Hook City, because you're the best Blitz EU."

4. Comebacks and how they aren't always possible all the time ever.

Oh man, have I seen some comebacks. I've even had some insane comebacks. I think one time my team was down 35-2 at 45 minutes, and we ended up winning. The rush was insane. So in League of Legends, a lot of the time there is room for a comeback. If you know how to wait for the throws, your team is still a happy family, and then capitalize on anything you can get your grubby little hands around, it can happen. But you also have to know when to call it a loss. If you're down 30 kills, 20k gold, and your team has done nothing but argue for the past half hour, then it's not going to end in a comeback.

So there you have it, a general guideline to follow to significantly boost your wins, and even get you a ribbon. So keep your head in the game summoners, and stay positive.
