Into the Void

Into the Void

The lore surrounding League of Legends tells us of the virtuous citizens of Demacia, the chaos that is known as Noxus, and the use of the Institute of War to settle political disputes. Though there is one place that remains shrouded in mystery, which is why today we step into the void to discover what lies within!

What little is known about the void can be found in the story of Cho’Gath. According to the official lore “There is a place between dimensions, between worlds. To some it is known as the Outside, to others it is the Unknown. To those that truly know, however, it is called the Void.

Despite its name, the Void is not an empty place, but rather the home of unspeakable things - horrors not meant for minds of men.” Cho’Gath is one of the few champions that have come from the void; the only other two being Kog’Maw and Kha’Zix. Another two void related champions are Malzahar and Kassadin, though they don't come directly from the void. Malzahar is a servant of the void and Kassadin is tasked with preventing beings from leaving its realm. Nevertheless, the three void born creatures seem to have one thing in common, which is a ravaging hunger that they can’t seem to control. However, each has its own interesting personality and traits, both in and out of game.

Cho’Gath

Cho'Gath shows off his razor sharp teeth!

This champion was the first from the void to be introduced to the League back in 2009. His gruesome looks are enough to strike fear in to the heart of any enemy, and it only gets worse as he visually grows larger and larger every time he noms on a foe. His hunger is seen through his ultimate, Feast, in which he consumes his opponents violently. Additionally, he is said to not only be ferocious, but incredibly intelligent as well. It is said that he is “a thing whose true nature is so awful most will not speak its name.”

In game Cho’Gath is a tank that offers a lot of utility to his team. His passive allows him to regenerate health and mana after every unit killed, making him great in the jungle or in lane. His rupture is both a knock up and a slow, which is incredibly valuable especially in team fights. Feral Scream also allows him to silence enemy champions to prevent them from casting abilities, which is great for ganking or fleeing. Leveling his Vorpal Spikes causes him to shoot out spikes upon each basic attack, which allows him to harass in lane from a distance. Lastly his ultimate, Feast, allows him to do a massive amount of true damage. If he kills an enemy with feast, he gains a certain amount of health and grows visually. He truly is a terror to face on Summoner’s Rift.

Kog’Maw

Kog'Maw hunts down a bug, surely soon to consume it.

Kog’Maw, by his very nature, is a very inquisitive creature. Upon making it to Runeterra, he wandered the world exploring; eating everything he found in doing so. This champion seems to be naïve and incredibly curious, and it’s easy to see how he exemplifies the void theme of hunger. At one point he stumbled upon a tribe of Nomads, and in typical Kog’Maw fashion ate every single villager. His appearance is also unsettling, as his spiked tongue, sharp teeth, and acidic enzymes make his mouth look like the void itself. This isn’t even mentioning his giant menacing eyes and spiked body.

In game, Kog is an AD Carry that specializes as a late game hyper carry. His Caustic Spittle passively increases his attack speed, and when activated lowers the targets armor and magic resist for 4 seconds. His Bio-Arcane Barrage is an active that increases his attack range and deals percentage health damage to those he’s attacking. This ability is probably the most useful, allowing him poke from further away and take down tanks quickly. His Void Ooze leaves a trail that damages enemies it hits initially and slows all who pass through it. His ultimate, Living Artillery, is a long range shot that drops from the sky after a short delay, damaging and revealing enemies. It has a short cool down, can be used to poke, finish off fleeing enemies and is great for kiting the enemy. Kog’Maw is surely a force to be reckoned with on the fields of justice, and will continue to intimidate his foes!

Kha’zix

Mecha Kha'Zix sports his ferocious metal look.

A ruthless predator, Kha’Zix fearlessly hunted prey to feed his hunger. In order to evolve, he hunted the most vicious creatures, putting his life on the line in order to satisfy his needs. At last he finally encountered Rengar, and the battle that came after was fierce. During the fight Rengar lost his eye to Kha’zix, and both barely escaped each other with their lives. Kha’Zix now devotes himself to devouring Rengar, showing his primal hunger that emanates from the void. His appearance is equally menacing, with bug like wings, sharp scything claws, and spikes protruding from his back.

In game Kha’Zix is an assassin that can excel in the jungle or in lane. Taste Their Fear deals damage to enemies when activated; additionally it marks isolated targets and does extra damage to targets that are marked. His Void Spikes fire exploding spikes in a cone, and if he’s within the damage radius, he is healed for a set amount. His Leap ability allows Kha’Zix to leap to his foes, dealing damage where he lands. Lastly, his ultimate Void Assault passively allows him to evolve his abilities to make him stronger, and actively makes him invisible and increase his movement speed. Kha’Zix is a predator that fears no foe, and never relents, so beware of this leaping invisible foe!

The void is a dark place that spawns formidable creatures, and is not to be taken lightly. While we still know little of the void, we do know that the creatures from within have super destructive powers. Fortunately for Runeterra, their powers are only contained to the Fields of Justice... At least, for now.
