Roscoe's Rapid Rudiments: Etiquette Between Players

Out here in the League of Legends we’re classy gentlemen and women who treat each other with the respect we deserve. Hah I wish. I’m going to be blunt with you fellow summoner, there are a LOT of terrible people on the internet and the same goes for League of Legends. If you make a mistake, you may get verbally attacked by teammates or opponents, but together, you and I can change all of that! If you really, REALLY want to act like a five year old with a tantrum, then hey to each their own. But if you want to have a positive experience with friends or anybody, then listen up friend.
It all begins in champion select. About 100% of the time, two people will want the same role, and they will probably argue. This is the part where you come in. At this point, cussing someone out and calling them obscene names is a great idea to get what you want. Yeah that was sarcasm. This is the part of the game where investing in other roles and being positive comes in handy. You may have to swallow a few choice words of your own and simply be the better man/woman. Not only will this help you to avoid being reported (let’s be real you have to be pretty consistently bad to be banned) but it will help influence your teammates into acting positively. Having a healthy debate and proving your point through logic is just fine, but when everyone is having a good time, your mind is in a better place and relaxed for a good game.
After a couple minutes of loading you’ll hear ‘welcome to Summoner’s Rift,’ and know that it’s time to wreck some noobs. Now I know from personal experience that the desire to criticize and outwit a troll is extremely strong right about now. But do your best to avoid typing ‘/all’ and pitting everyone against said troll. Do not, and I repeat, do NOT feed the trolls. If you try to defeat another player in an argument you’ll more than likely end up being the villain in the game. Doing so will ignite an argument and you’ll be wasting time you could be coordinating or concentrating. My philosophy is to give the troll one last chance to redeem him or herself. If they make up for their negative actions, then they don’t deserve a report. Simply ignore or mute the offender and ask them to end their verbal abuse or negative behavior. There’s a direct correlation between constant typing and death, you’ll be caught if you aren’t concentrating on positioning. Now play well and keep in mind that this is a worst case scenario, but it can happen.
After the game is where player actions can have consequences. The post-game lobby is where you can put in any last minute words to allies or opponents, report or give accolades to a player. If someone truly deserves a report, then do so for an accurate offense. If you can, include a specific description of what went wrong so that case judges can get a clearer story. Don’t report people willy-nilly, something to keep in mind is sometimes people are bad at constructive criticism and you made an honest mistake that you don’t want to admit. If a particular player has shown great behavior, then reward them for it! Remember, be a part of the solution, not the problem.
