Quinn and Valor - Demacia’s Wings

Quinn and Valor was the 111th Champion to be added to the Field of Justice as she entered the gates on 2nd March 2013. In this article I will recommend my own build that I use on Quinn to any player along with an explanation as to why I chose these items.

My recommended build for Quinn is:

Starting off with boots, you can pick more or less anything with Quinn, if you want the extra attack speed pick the Berserker Greaves if you want to have that little extra armor and to block some of your opponents basic attacks then grab the Ninja Tabi’s. If you want some Tenacity to block your opponents blinds, stuns, snares or whatever they’re willing to throw at you with some magic resist then pick the Mercury Treads. The choice is yours! Buy what you feel comfortable with here.

Bloodthirster

The first item, the Bloodthirster is practical to build on Quinn as a first item because it has 70 attack damage and 12% Life steal. It also has a passive that gives +1 attack damage and 0.2% life steal per kill and caps at +30 attack damage and 6% life steal. It also states these bonuses are halved upon death. This item is also good because looking at Quinn’s passive, Harrier, it says that she deals bonus physical damage equal to 15 + (10* level) /170/185/200/215 (+50% AD), but what isn’t shown in this passive is that the bonus damage benefits to the life steal obtained.

Zephyr_PhantomD

The second item of choice to build is the Phantom Dancer, in addiction you could buy the Zephyr both of these items are good and practical on Quinn.

Starting with the Phantom Dancer, the stats it gives are 50 attack speed, 30 critical strike chance and a 5 movement speed multiplier. The ‘PD’ for short, also has a unique passive that allows your champion to ignore unit collision. The attack speed given on this item benefits Quinn’s Heightened Senses greatly, along with this the skill also allows more vision surrounding Quinn and her Vault to become more mobile plus dealing much more damage. Having a lot of attack speed on Quinn will help stack the life steal on the Bloodthirster which will end up benefiting her passive.

Secondly, the critical strike chance I find useful with Quinn’s passive, the attack speed and then with the two aoe’s this allows Quinn to be a major part of team fights and incredibly useful as well. What’s vital about Quinn is that she’s squishy and she needs to kill the enemies quickly. The critical strike gives her a push which helps her to do that. Lastly, about the ‘PD’ is the movement speed multiplier and the unique passive. Quinn, is melee for most of the time, and has to go into the centre of team fights having these two extra marks onto her allows her to get out quicker than anyone else and if she doesn’t die her Bloodthirster will continue to stack and add bonus damage to her passive.

Moving on to the other possible item, the Zephyr. This item gives 25 attack damage, 50% attack speed, 10% movement speed and cooldown reduction. It also has a unique passive: Tenacity, it reduces the duration of stuns, slows, fears, taunts, silences, blinds and immobilizers by 35%. Overall, this item is pretty close in comparison to the Phantom Dancer.

Instead of the critical strike, if you’re really not overkeen on it, you have the attack damage from the Zephyr which will help Quinn’s passive and the Bloodthirster which will make her a little more dangerous. Adding the cooldown reduction as well will allow Quinn to use her skills, especially her ultimate and the Heightened Senses dealing extra damage as well as granting yourself and your team much more vision. So if things turn bad, you’re in a team fight and your team is dropping like flies and you need to escape the Zephyr will do the trick, with 10% extra movement speed you can escape and even if you’re caught the Tenacity passive will allow you to get away sooner with the 35% reduction.

InfinityEdge

The next item that would be useful to build would be an Infinity Edge. This is a popular item on all AD carries. This item rewards you with 70 attack damage and 25% critical strike chance. It also has a passive that gives 50% critical strike damage. This item is perfect for all AD carries as well as Quinn. This item was more or less designed for AD carries. This is definitely a mid - late game item and is still a favourite to many.

The 70 attack damage makes a big different to anyone, and to Quinn this will stack onto her passive and increase her bonus damage largely. The passive increases her 200% critical damage hit too 250%. So therefore, once the Infinity Edge is complete you’re about finished with the offensive part of her build and playing on Quinn this item is the icing on the cake. With the damage from Quinn’s passive as well as her attack speed buff from Heightened Senses this will allow you to take the enemies down before they take you down.

Last_Whisper

Next, the Last Whisper is the perfect item to build next. It gives 40 attack damage and has a passive that gives 35% armor penetration. The 35% armor penetration is overall good. percentage armour penetration shreds more than flat armor penetration. Percentage armor penetration is used against enemies with a lot of armor. For example, say we have an item with 40% armour penetration and our enemy has 200 armor this will force the enemy down to 120 armor losing 80 armor while if we had 40 armor penetration it would only take the enemy down to 160 armor.

The Last Whisper also has 40 attack damage, this will again help Quinn’s passive out a lot and with the percentage armor penetration on top of this you will be dealing much more damage. This item needs to be built later in the game, it’s easier to build it when your enemy starts to build armor because you will then make their armor useless dealing true damage. Never build this item if the enemy doesn’t have any armor, since this item will be useless for you and you would have more of an advantage building another item.

Randuins_Frozen_Warmogs

The last major item I’d recommend to build would be a tankier item, I personally go for the Randuin’s Omen. Alternatives to this would be the Frozen Mallet or Warmogs.

I would choose the Randuin’s Omen over the rest because of the stats it gives. It gives 70 armor and 500 health. It has a unique passive: Cold Steel, If Quinn is hit by a basic attack, you slow the attacker’s attack speed by 15% and their movement speed by 10% for 1.5seconds. This item also has a unique active which slows the movement speed of nearby enemy units by 35% for 2 seconds + 1 second for every 100 armor and magic resistance you have. The last part is fairly useless to her since she doesn’t stack either but this active still works nicely.

Since Quinn is squishy she’ll need to escape from battle quickly, we do have the Phantom Dancer / Zephyr but this is just a precaution. If we get stuck we could activate this item and get away easily. The passive is good for Quinn too, she needs to be able to outburst the opponent and with this passive if anyone hits her Randuin’s will decrease their attack speed and movement speed. So she can either use this to escape or use this to get extra hits in since we’ll have fairly high attack speed and attack damage by now especially with Heightened Senses and Quinn’s passive. The 70 armor and 500 health is just to give that extra survivability if things do go terribly wrong but these stats with the passive and active together works well with Quinn.

The Frozen Mallet is an alternative for Quinn but definitely does work with her. It gives 700 health and 30 attack damage, along with its unique passive: Icy our basic attacks will slow our targets movement speed by 40% or 30% for ranged attacks for 1.5 seconds. This item is good, if you prefer to go for even more attack damage for Quinn’s passive over the armor then go ahead. This item gives 200 more health than Randuin’s Omen but it still makes Quinn tankier. This is another escape item if something bad happens and you need to get away you just attack the enemy and it’ll slow them for a couple of seconds allowing you to hopefully get away, or you can use this item to your advantage and kite them until they get low then lunge on them with Vault and Tag Team.

The last alternative I would recommend would be Warmogs. This is the item you go for if you just want health and health regeneration. It gives 1000 health and it’s unique passive will regenerate 1% of your total health every 5 seconds. Thats all it does! If you don’t want any extra armor or attack damage then go for this item, it’ll make you incredibly tanky and allow you to survive that little longer. If you don’t like this idea then go for one of the items I mentioned above.
