5 Things I’ve learnt about LCS so far

So far the LCS has proven to be a huge hit within the gaming community.  It has been gaining massive views on the live streams and it has seen some huge activity within discussions on the Reddit forums.  I have watched alot of the streams and as a player I have been taking notes on how to improve.  Here are 5 things I have learnt so far that are very important.

Get them last hits!

On many occasions I have watched matches and seen (mainly in the top lane) early game, a player who is 50 to 80 creep score higher than his opposition. The opposing player has no deaths either. The importance of getting them last hits early game can dramatically effect the outcome of the game. You will be able to finish off your buying your items before the opposition thus branding you more powerful 1v1 and in team fights.

Killing the dragon is more important than I thought

One thing I have noticed is the importance of a dragon kill and how much it can become a game changer. The two main ways it can become a game changer is the fact that regular and safe dragon kills can boost your gold lead by a healthy margin.  Another way it can be a game changer is that a well executed attack on a team attempting the dragon can cause heavy casualties and possibly lose you the game, and obviously a good team could respond and kill dragon along with 2 or 3 enemy players.  Thus resulting in a massive lead and again, possibly a win.

Communication is the key

Any of you who play any form of team sport will know that communication is indeed a massively important factor.   In League of Legends it has also proven to play a huge factor with regards to teams winning or losing. Making sure that you have someone in your team with the confidence to call out a target in team fights (and your team listening to that) can win you the game.  Not listening or not having someone calling out targets can just result in you getting face stomped in a group fight and 2 people randomly just attacking the tank or someone able to kite away.

Banning out the player not the champions

Personally as I do not play in the highest of leagues I see people every time ban Blitzcrank, Darius, Shen, Amumu, Malphite and then possibly Katarina. Now this is just banning out “OP” champions but what use is that if you are up against a half decent player? In the LCS, the pro players use good tactics with regards to the bans. Teams ban the champions that will be cause the most damage to them from that certain player. For example in the LCS so far most teams that come up against Dignitas have banned Kayle because they know how devastating Scarra is with it.  Clever bans could win you the game.  Do your homework on the opposition and see what their strengths are along with what champions their game plan is worked around...and ban it!

Smile

A prime example of this is with our very own Team Dignitas.  If you watch them during champion select, they are joking, laughing and smiling all the way through the game.  It helps relieve stress and put your team mates in a comfortable mentality to perform.  Remaining positive and giving constructive advice is so much better than flaming at a team mate.  And hey, if you aren't enjoying what you are doing, then whats the point in doing it?
