Why Rylai's and Liandrys are made for each other

These two items have been used a lot in Season 3 and are hot favourites for many professional players including Team-Dignitas' very own KiWiKiD and Scarra. But why? It's time to find out!

Recently, in the LCS NA and EU will have been seeing this pair a lot! These two Items can fit in all, if not most of the AP Champions in the game and what's also good is that these two items can be used in both the top lane and the mid lane. Following Team Dignitas we have noticed that both scarra and KiWiKiD have used these items on Singed and Elise.

So lets start off!

For starters, what's great about Rylai's and Liandrys is their Passive abilities. Rylai's Passive reads that with every spell you damage with will slow the target by 35% for 1.5seconds or 15% for aoe, damage-over-time spells and spells with a cooldown below 3 seconds. On Liandry's second passive it says that dealing spell damage burns 6% of their current health as magic damage over 3 seconds and if the targets movement is impaired they will take double damage from this effect.

Great! So we now have a permanent  burn since when we cast a spell on a target (or targets) we will slow them and due to Liandrys passive we will burn double to what we're suppose too!

Next, looking at Liandrys first Passive, Eyes of Pain, we gain +15 Magic Penetration. So, if we dealt 280 Magic Damage with one spell and the enemy has 30 Base Magic Resistance with no Magic Resist items, the +15 Magic Penetration from Liandrys will allow us to deal true damage. Since now we're dealing 280 True Damage, if the enemy had 600 health remaining, with the slow from Rylai's it will trigger the second passive from Liandrys. Liandrys now triggered will be dealing 12% of their current health as magic damage. This adds up to 72 M.Damage (24 M.Damage per second) on top of our 280 true damage taking the enemy down too 248 health in one hit.

So along with this amazing passive ability couple, what makes Rylai's and Liandrys even more perfect, especially for the squishy AP's, is the stats it gives. Together Rylai's and Liandrys give a total of +800 health and +130 Ability Power. So overall, these two items are perfect by giving any AP Champion a lot of burst and allows them to become tankier giving them much more survivability in the team fights. Isn't that just what everyone wanted?
