A Gathering of Summoners: Project Lucy
I feel the League community has a horrible reputation. Sure, there are those players that make you want to go shove a spoon in your eye, but people always remember the bad, never the good. When Dignitas’s manager went through that horrible house fire, however, that’s where the beauty of the community lit up. People were retweeting, spamming Facebook, and posting the link to the donation site in any social networking site they had access to. It was a thing of greatness that really showed off that there are amazing people in the League world. More so than any other multiplayer game.
This is Ovi. She’s a high school student that plays League with her friends when she has time between school and basic teenager activities. She doesn’t have a skyrocketing ELO, she’s not on a professional team, and she has no ties to Riot. She is, however, one of the beautiful summoners I’m speaking of.
Ovi is holding a stream-a-thon today through Christmas Eve to raise money for a chemo treatment that the victim, Lucy, is not able to afford. Ovi’s goal is to reach $1500 and she went out of her way to buy RP cards, starter packs, and collect skin codes to give away at each mile stone her and her team of friends complete. She’s even willing to part with some of her League swag she gathered at playoffs to help. Seems like a bit much for a group of casual League players, but, honestly, if 150 people donated 10 dollars? They would reach that goal easily.
She has had the kindness of Crs Pluto tweeting out, Aphromoo making a guest appearance and helping with donations, and has much more to come. Even if you can’t donate, defiantly come support. It’s becoming quite a movement.
Use some of that RP money to make a difference for someone this holiday season. Skins and champions can wait. Someone’s life is a completely different story.
