Azubu Blaze Wins MLG Dallas Fall Championship
Azubu Blaze came up from the loser's bracket in the MLG Fall Championships to take the win away from NaJin Sword 4-1 in an extended series on Sunday. The series almost ended picture-perfect with a pentakill from Azubu Blaze AD Carry Cpt. Jack though the final kill was taken by Azubu Blaze Sub Top Shy.
MLG comes as a significant win for the Korean scene with two teams landing in first and second place. Neither NaJin Sword nor Azubu Blaze suffered a single defeat at the hands of any non-Korean team during the tournament, giving what should be a stark message to European and North American players.
Europe and North America (but especially CLG fans) had some cause for celebration as CLG.EU and CLG.Prime took third and fourth in the tournament, respectively.
Team Dignitas appeared to fare the best against the Korean domination though they were still dropped to the loser's bracket after a 2-0 set with Azubu Blaze. In what was one of the best games of the tournament the second Dig/Blaze match demonstrated some incredible back and forth play up until the very last moments. Base races and inhibitor spawns prompted some tense moments before Dignitas finally fell to Blaze, but certainly not before demonstrating that they were up to the challenge.
Team SoloMid were handed two defeats by NaJin Sword, folding to strong team compositions and constant pressure by the second-place finishers. CLG.EU was also dominated by Azubu Blaze in two decisive matches that totaled about 50 minutes.
In what will surely be a scourge on solo queue matches for the next few weeks CLG.EU AP/Mid player Henrik 'Froggen' Hansen took Lee Sin mid to the delight of fans and viewers. During game two of CLG.EU's match with TSM Froggen's Lee Sin was a force of nature, getting a Guardian Angel in 16 minutes followed by a fast Bloodthirster. Lee was also taken against Azubu Blaze though the unconventional pick wasn't enough to secure a win as his opponent Kang 'Ambition' Chan-yong built his Diana with large amounts of early armor to counter Lee's damage.
The prize pool for the event was $30,000 with Azubu Blaze taking $16,000, NaJin Sword taking $8,000, CLG.EU taking $4,000 and CLG.Prime taking $2,000.
Next weekend professional League of Legends and StarCraft II matches continue in Texas with the Lone Star Clash 2 in Austin Saturday and Sunday. For more information visit http://tespa.org/lsc2/.
