Team Compositions: Crowd Control

Team composition is a game changing factor in league of legends. Champion selection is a key factor to determine how the game should be played out. Whether the team is made to split push, have a lot of area of effect damage, or as I will discuss, a large amount of crowd control.

Crowd control refers to abilities that influence or prevent actions of another character.

This is a good example of a crowd control team composition. The chain knock-ups allowed Cassiopeia to land her ultimate onto the entire team. During this time, Corki was able to get a large amount of damage onto the other team without a response. If your team does not have any crowd control and it's your turn to pick, consider one of these to choose.

High Crowd Control Champions

Nautilus

Nautilus

Nautilus has the most crowd control of every champion in the game. His initiate is very solid, with heavy burst damage and crowd control to follow it up. He is versatile enough to play both top, jungle, and mid lane.

1.Snare
2.Pull
3.Area of Effect Slow
4.Knock-up + stun

Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank has one of the best initiating abilities in the game. He can prevent the target from escaping by chaining difference forms of crowd control on top of them. Despite his strengths, his only role is as a support.

1.Pull
2.Knock-up
3.Silence

Jarvan

 Jarvan

Jarvan is a very durable champion with crowd control.Though his kit can backfire very easily, he has a high reward for skill. Jarvan can be played both as a jungle and a top laner. Never forget about Jarvan and Leona in the bottom lane.

1.Knock up
2.Slow
3.Wall-in

Now to Team Compositions with high Crowd Control. These champions have a tendency to be an early pick in draft mode. I'll include suggestions on who you can follow up with and why.

Amumu

Amumu has great initiation with bandage toss. His kit is versatile enough to either single out a target, or lock down an entire team in place. His ultimate's snare can lock down opponents long enough for your team to follow up. His only weakness is tenacity. Des

A few champions that work well with Amumu:

1. Galio - Bandage Toss into Curse of the Sad mummy allows Galio to follow up with his own ultimate. Keeps the team locked down for another carry to pick them off.

2. Morgana - Snare into a Bandage toss is a very punishing initiate for the other team. Soul Shackles and Curse of the Sad Mummy also has great synergy. Keeping the team in held in place for morgana to land a stun on all five of the opponents is the goal of this combination. They both also have the ability to reduce magic resist, which allows even tanky targets to be taken down.

3. Zyra - Another champion who synergizes well with her ultimate, but also with her plants. Zyra has the potential to knock up the entire oposing team and do a lot of damage if they do not have a way to escape from her ultimate. Amumu can almost garuntee the knock-ups and allow her plants to stay in range of the enemy team.

4. Varus - As unpopular as he is, Varus does very well with Amumu at picking off targest. If the other team tries to rush and focus varus, their ultimates can snare the entire other team for a large duration of the team fight.

Alistar

Alistar is always banned with good reason. He is a very dominant support champion, yet his ganking abilities are one of the most potent among the popular jungles. His headbutt into pulverize combination can lock down a single opponent with great ease. His pulverize can also punish poor positioning on the opposing team.

Some champions that work well with alistar

1. Vayne (lane) - This is one of the best kill lane's in the game. Alistar can abuse any positioning mistakes by the opposing bottom lane, and allows Vayne enough time to follow up. Headbutt into Condemn can burst down single targets early game with ease. Both champions also scale very well as the game progresses. Alistar also has great pealing ability for Vayne during the team fights.

2. Malphite - In the "Wombo Combo" video above, Team Legion followed up Pulverize with unstoppable force to chain the knock ups. However, even if a perfect team fight like that does not occur, Malphite and Alistar are both fairly tanky with crowd control for pealing or diving an enemy champion.

3. Twisted Fate - If you get mobility boots on jungle alistar, constantly ganking with the help of Twisted Fate is almost garunteed kills. Coordinating ganks properly with Twisted Fate could be a game changing strategy. For example, Twisted Fate could teleport into a position top forcing the enemy to head down towards the river, where an Alistar is already waiting to help the gank.
