The Support Tier List

The recent Jayce patch has seen a lot of changes for support champions with Sona and Nunu receiving significant buffs, and Janna and Alistar receiving slight nerfs. Here is a compiled tier list of the best, and worste, support champions of the post-Jayce patch. So what exactly is a support?

A support champion is one that sacrifices the necessity of gold intake in exchange for supporting their team. Support champions will typically build gold per 10 items such as a Philosopher's Stone and Heart of Gold. Support champions will typically also build items that would be most beneficial for the entire team and not just their own needs.

Tier 1

  Sona - Recent buff has made Sona become a tier 1 support again. Increased range from Sona allows her to be more aggressive as a support and allows her to zone the lane opposition more effectively.

  Janna - Great kit for a support champion. Her Eye of The Storm allows her AD carry to win exchanges easily against the lane opposition. Her ultimate is great for disrupting the enemy team during team fights and forces them into weaker positioning.

  Soraka - Always a safe and secure support champion to play. Her infuse allows her to provide increased mana regeneration to her AD carry which in return allows her AD carry to harass more effectively. Her global ultimate is great utility in providing support for all lanes as well as jungler.

Tier 2

 Taric - Taric's dazzle effective in harassing and gaining kills from ganks. Taric's radiance and shatter provide significant auras for his entire team and especially his AD carry during laning phase.  Taric's imbue also provides sustainability during laning phase with the only fallback being its long cooldowns.

  Alistar - Although recent nerf on mana cost makes Alistar less aggressive. However, Alistar's kit is still very strong and can be very problematic for the enemy team.

  Leona - A very strong burst and a very aggressive support champion. Leona's kit is great crowd control and can easily turn the tide in team fights.

  Nunu - Blood Boil is a great steroid with many champions. Nunu's Ice Blast as well is great for harassing the enemy team and to minimize escapability with jungle ganks. Nunu's damage output from a completely channeled ultimate can be very problematic for the enemy team.

  Blitzcrank - Blitzcrank's kit allows him to naturally zone out the enemy team. His small cooldown on his ultimateand heavy burst allows Blitzcrank to have a strong crowd control kit, as well as significant damage output from a the support.A well skilled Blitzcrank can be very problematic for the opposing team if the Blitzcrank is able to land Rocket Grab making positioning an even higher priority than it naturally is.

The most significant change is with Sona once again become a tier 1 support champion from her recent buffs from the patch. Her damage increase has allowed her to become a more aggressive support than she has been after her past nerf. Sona's buff will make Sona become a much more relevant champion once again that will be constantly be picked in every game. However, more aggressive support champions have become more popular allowing Blitzcrank, Leona, and Nunu to become very popular picks as support champions.
