Vayne, the Night Hunter

Vayne is a ranged attack damage carry. She has shorter range than some AD carries but makes up for it with her amazing skillset. Vayne plays somewhat like an assassin such as Akali, Talon, Shaco, Evelynn or Twitch. As such her positioning and timing must be perfect in order to seal the deal. However if you do manage to master vayne, you will find youself insta-gibbing squishies against walls and watching tanks flee from you silver bolts. Purge with silver.

Vayne: Melter of Faces

Base Stats

Health: 359 (+83)

Attack damage: 50 (+3.25)

Attack speed: 0.658 (+3.1%)

Mana: 173 (+27)

Mana regen.: 6.3 (+0.4)

Armor: 9.3 (+3.4)

Magic res:. 30 (+0)

Range: 550

Mov. speed: 300

Abilities

VaynePassive Passive: Night Hunter

Vayne gains 30 flat movement speed when moving towards a nearby visible enemy champion.

Range: 2000

Vayne's passive is a deal sealer, it allows her to get in close quickly so you can land all her damage. Nothing really special, just a decent chase tool

 Q: Tumble

Vayne quickly rolls toward the cursor and enhances her next autoattack within 6 seconds to deal a percentage of her attack damage as bonus physical damage. This enhanced attack will not proc against structures.

Cost: 40 mana

Range: 250

Cooldown: 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2 seconds

Bonus Physical Damage: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 % of attack damage

Tumble in my mind is vayne's best ability. It costs 40 mana which is virtually nothing and has such a short cooldown. You can tumble to avoid skillshots, into enemies, out of enemies, as good poke or to guarantee last hits. 50% bonus physical damage is a LOT of bonus damage and having that every 2 seconds is pretty insane. Learn to love tumble. Love it lots.

With Ult: Tumble will grand a second of stealth. This is amazing for repositioning in teamfights, suriving dives, lining up the perfect E. Be smart about the stealth, it can save you life, turn a teamfight or seal the deal.

Max Tumble as soon as possible

SilverBolts W: Silver Bolts

Vayne's consecutive attacks and spell hits on a target will mark them with a silver ring. The third consecutive attack or spell hits against the same target will consume the rings, dealing true damage plus a percentage of the target's maximum health as additional true damage. Damage against monsters is capped at 200. The rings on a target are lost after 3 seconds of not attacking them or upon attacking a different target.

Base True Damage: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60

Max Health to Damage Ratio: 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8%

Silver bolts is what in my mind makes vayne the beast of an AD carry that she is. Silver bolts does flat true damage (Damage that will always be the same and ignores resistances) as well as % health bonus true damage. Squishies will melt to your skills and auto attacks as well as mildy silver bolts. Tanks will melt to silver bolts. It tears them to shreds and there is nothing scarier than having 200 Armor yet dying faster than your carry. Use this in lane to harass, get the proc and the enemy will think twice about messing with you.

Depending on the game/the way fights are playing out you will want to level this second or last

Condemn W: Condemn

Vayne fires a huge bolt at her target, dealing physical damage and knocking them back. If they collide with terrain after being knocked back, they are dealt the same amount of physical damage again and are stunned for 1.5 seconds. This ability also applies one ring of Silver Bolts.

Cost: 90 mana

Range: 450

Maximum Knockback distance: 470 (abouts)

Cooldown: 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 seconds

Physical Damage: 45 / 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 (+0.5 per bonus attack damage)

Condemn is where Vayne's positioning comes into play most. You want to use this to take someone out of the fight or instantly murder a squishy such as the enemy AD or AP carry. Decent strategies involve waiting in brush and using this on unsuspecting people when they show up OR using tumble stealth to set up a good condemn. At level 9 with tumble and comdemn leveled while having your ultimate active, you will pretty much instantly kill the support or enemy ad carry if you land a stun comdemn.

Depending on the game/the way fights are playing out you will want to level this second or last

However take a point early so you can set up the stun or use it to knock people away.

FinalHour R: Final Hour

Vayne increases her combat skills and improves her abilities for a few seconds. For the duration, Vayne is granted bonus attack damage and the bonus movement speed from Night Hunter is tripled. Additionally, she will stealth for 1 second after using Tumble.

Cooldown: 70 seconds

Cost: 80 mana

Duration: 8 / 10 / 12 seconds

Bonus Attack Damage: 25 / 40 / 55

Your ultimate, and a beastly one it is. Bonus damage, movespeed and temporary stealth. You sould mainly use this offensively as it is a great "steroid" that will allow you to do a very high amount of damage to everything while enhancing your survivability. It can be used to disengage or survive bad situations by popping it and using the stealth to evade the enemy team.

Take final hour whenever possible (6, 11, 16)

 Runes and Masteries

Vayne gains a lot from AD so we will run AD marks and quints. To give her some extra survival run armor and magic resist glyphs and seals.

Greater Quintessence of Strength x 3 (6.75 Attack Damage)

Greater Mark of Strength x 9 (8.55 Attack Damage)

Greater Seal of Resilience x9 (12.69 Armor)

Greater Glyph of Shielding x9 (24.3 Magic Resist at level 18)

Masteries are set up the same sort of way, going for lots of offense with defensive masteries as well. You could run utility however it is not recommended.

OffensiveTreeDefensiveTree

Offensively you want to take the damage, armor pen, attack speed, crit damage and lifesteal ones. Allows for better trades and easier last hits.

Defensively you want to take armor, better heal, extra health per level and extra health.

Summoner Spells

flash  AND  heal

You can run Cleanse rather than Heal if it fits better for the team comp. Think about what would help you win most.

Itemization

Vayne has some pretty unique options as far as items go but shares the same core as most AD carries.

Starting Items

With a sustaining support -

Dorans Blade

dorans

With any other support -

Boots and three health pots

boots  +  hpots x3

Early Items

Try to get these items as they provide you with decent HP, damage, sustain and movespeed

Berserkers Greaves, Two Dorans Blades, Vampiric Scepter

Zerks  +   dorans   +  dorans  +   Vamp

Mid Game Items

These items will help you significantly by further increasing you damage, survival and speed.

Bloodthirster, Phantom Dancer

BT  +   PD

Final Items

This is the final build you should be aiming for

Phantom Dancer, Infinity Edge, Guardian Angel(vs Physical heavy) OR Quick Silver Sash (vs Magic Heavy)

PD   +   IE          GA  OR   QSS

at this point you are done building items and should be using Elixirs

ALTERNATIVE BUILD

This is an alternative way to build Vayne. Take it with a grain of salt

BC  +  WL  with zerks

Then

PD  +  IE  + GA  OR  QSS

Finally,

Sell WL    Buy  BT and Elixirs

Like I said take this with a grain of salt. There is a theory that is flying around currently that is pitting Black Cleaver against Last Whisper. Even with last whisper, black cleaver is still one of the best items you can buy for armor pen. There is a ton of math to back this up however you will find that in game, situations will make Last whisper inheriently better a majority of the time. However vayne doesn't really need  a lot of armor pen since the more attack speed she has the more true damage she will be doing. Love the true damage and crush your enemies with it.

Laning

Vayne's best friends in lane:

Taric - Stun Setup and armor shredding. Ult gives her some damage as well. Good heals to keep vayne alive too.

Alistar - Same this as Taric really. Lots of heals and set ups for really good trades and kills.

Sona - Used to be better but still good. Good heals, auras make vayne faster and do more damage. Large stun ult

Special Note

Nunu - NEVER UNDERESTIMATE NUNU. This lane basically gives vayne a free Zeal, which is extra free true damage. Her follow up on the slow will really really hurt.

Vayne's worst enemies

Caitlyn, Trist, Kog - They all out range vayne. Trist also has a huge amount of magic damage burst and a heal debuff. Beware.

Soraka - Her heals are really strong, try and pin her to eliminate the heals. Trade when her heal is down.

Beyond that, anyone that can stick to her with gap closers and lock her down. Play smart.

Tips

Last hit and punish enemies for last hitting.

Try to use wards to set up wall condemns. It is a lot of damage and it will be free (little to no damage to you in return)

Avoid taking lots of harass by using tumble and brush to your advantage.

Tumble can be used to ensure last hits as well as snatch a second minion that you would otherwise miss with basic auto attacks.

Teamfighting

After laning you will find youself sitting on some decent items and gold. You will need to use everything to your advantage at this point in order to secure global objectives with your team.

Your silver bolts will melt baron, dragon and the neutral buffs quickly, always be there to help your team steal or secure.

Try to stay at the back of the team and poke down a target until your team gets a good initiate or counter initiate. Then try to use condemn to force someone out or lock someone down. It is up to you who to use it on, it does significant damage to squishies and stuns them thus eliminating their damage and leaving them helpless, however it also can stun an annoying bruiser or assassin that is somewhat stuck to you. Be smart, stay alive, you don't do any damage if you are dead.
