Interview with TSM’s Yoonie
Three weeks ago I interviewed the one and only TSM Yoonie, on her birthday! If you don't know who Yoonie is then you are truly missing out. She is not only a featured streamer for TSM but she is also Xpecial's baby mama (You will get it once you've read throught the interview).
In this birthday edition interview, Yoonie talks about living with TSM, working with TSM, streaming and she also gives some tips for success to streaming. Enjoy the interview and I hope you all appreciate the work I am putting in.
I want to start off first by saying Happy Birthday.
Yoonie: Aw thank you thank you.
No problem, so what is it like living with the members of TSM?
Yoonie: Pretty dirty and lazy honestly lol. The house is really dirty and probably Xpecial and I are the only ones that actually clean and we only clean every now and then.
How close are you the members of TSM?
Yoonie: I’m friends with them all but of course, xpecial is closest to me. 2nd closest would probably be Regi, hes actually pretty nice and when I told him I needed a job to earn money he actually gave me jobs like uploading videos and stuff to earn a little money.
Yes, You and Xpecial are very close, haha. I remember on reddit when someone posted you two were having a baby haha.
Yoonie: l0l0l omg that troll basically that was started when tsm still used irc. Messiah (TSM admin) was bored and decided to troll me and xpecial and he spread the rumor that I was prego on irc and it just spread from that lolol.
Haha, well he deserves a gold medal for best troll. So would you say Regi is the one who got you started with streaming and making youtube videos?
Yoonie: Regi wasn't the one who got me into streaming, that actually happened when I was in college (its summer break now). My college was super expensive and I played league a lot and I thought to myself maybe I should try streaming to earn a little money to help pay for college.
So I started streaming on my laptop (it was a really bad laptop) and I got like 10 fps with the stream on and gave up on streaming then Xpecial told me that I could trade laptops with him (he has a Lenovo i7) because he never uses his laptop other than surfing the web at tournamnets so I started streaming on his i7 after I started streaming TSM was very shaky on featuring me because of the chaox/becca incident last year.
They didn't want more drama to happen with another girl streamer and TSM, so I streamed without being featured for about a month then Regi started to notice I was getting an average of 800+ viewers daily (this was back on Own3d). Since Regi is a businessman, he saw potential in my stream and since I was getting a good number of viewers daily he decided to feature me not because of my relation to TSM but due to the potential of my stream.
That's quite interesting and a smart way to earn money if you can build a big enough fan base, which is probably the hardest part.
Yoonie: haha I actually don't earn much money. To make a good amount of money from streaming you need an average of 4k+ viewers daily but every penny I earn is very helpful.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to make money streaming or from a youtube channel?
Yoonie: Making money from streaming or youtube both have a very similar process
1. You must have the equipment to actually stream/make videos
2. When you first start, advertise your stream/youtube on your social network sites
3. Keep streaming/making videos, creating a fan base takes time
4. Once you get a big enough fanbase you can have the potential of making money (you won't make money immediately)
5. When your fanbase is big enough you make money.
Well 5 is more like for streamwise geting partnered due to your average viewer count, getting partnered with youtube to earn money from streaming or videos, you won'earn much money unless you hit a high viewer count/video viewed.
Thats great advice, I will stick to that myself. Have you or do you plan on picking up a sponsor for your stream or youtube channel?
Yoonie: Well my stream is featured by Solomid which is pretty much a sponsor. To get paid from streaming you need to get either featured by a company like Solomid/CLG or get partnered with the site. For my youtube channel, YoonieS2, I don't plan on getting money from my videos I only use youtube to have playlists but I do upload videos on the solomid youtube and I get money through that but not from my own personal youtube.

Have you thought about competing in league tournaments?
Yoonie: Not at the moment, I have done competitive league in the past. I helped manage edg before (now known as najin). I used to be main roster on team overdose (a lesser known team but won go4lol a few weeks ago) other than that I have subbed for other teams when needed but now a days I just help TSM with booking scrimmages and at tournaments. I record videos for youtube Regi did say that in the future he will give me more jobs for TSM and maybe eventually in the future I might be the TSM manager.
Where do you see yourself in the next 4 years? Do you see yourself staying with TSM, if not where do you see yourself?
Yoonie: Most likely in college.
Do you plan on doing other gaming work, outside of TSM and League of Legends?
Yoonie: Not really sure, it would be really cool if I could get a job in esports but if I don't I would most likely go into finishing my major, research and development.
Well I'm sure that which ever path you take, you have the support from your fans and TSM.
Yoonie: haha :) hopefully.
Before I let you go is there any advice or anything you would like to tell your fans?
Yoonie: :) Thank you to all my supporters/fans/stream viewers without you guys I wouldn't be where I am today
And where can your newer fans send you their love and support?
Yoonie: my facebook is: Facebook.com/YoonieS2, twitter: @YoonieS2 and of course stop by my stream if you want at Twitch.tv/Yoonie.
