The Call of Duty Pro League has been going strong for about three weeks now, with Division A starting us off. On Feburary 18th, Division B started their round of play, and it is here, we will find our next gamer of interest, Michael "Beehzy" Said of Excelerate Gaming. We sat down with Beehzy to talk about Call of Duty and more.
How did you end up becoming a part of Excelerate Gaming?
Beehzy: Throughout the off season me and Jay (j0rhinho) had a lot of conversations as I was developing this roster. After we beat FaZe in the first, they decided to take the chance on us. Really thankful for Jay truly believing in us when nobody else would.
In the competitive scene, many players have designated roles to help the team succeed. Do you have a specific role when play with your team?
Beehzy: My role in game is Main AR player. I pretty much specialize in long range engagements and rotations. I’m also the respawn in game leader, basically make sure everyone stays focused and that we're on the same page in game while making critical shots calls.
As a pro player, what does your daily schedule look like? Walk us through a typical day.
Beehzy: Well we’re on the straight gamer sleep schedule haha. On the average day, I probably wake up around 3-5pm, get on to scrim at 6pm, and play with my team till around 12-1am. Then, I either get some individual reps in with things like $10s or Public matches or hop on some NBA 2K for the rest of the night.
Players seem to feel like Multiplayer isn’t getting the same amount of love as Blackout mode, with a bevy of issues that need to be fixed. Do you agree with this sentiment, and can you think of anything that you hope to see fixed?
Beehzy: Honestly, I think Blackout is critical to Call of Duty’s future so I don’t really mind it. I really felt like the meta and balance was in a good state but I have yet to try out the new patch (1.13) yet though.
Treyarch revealed what League Play is going to look like come release and fans weren’t happy. What are your thoughts on the new format?
Beehzy: I haven’t really looked into the new format at all so I couldn’t tell you. Just hoping the ladder system is more of a skill based system rather than a grinding base ELO system. Also good rewards are key!
Is there a specific team who’s been your favorite to play against?
Beehzy: Not really anymore. I used to love playing against the ex GGEA but they're no longer a team. If I had to pick I’d probably say eU.
What would be the best piece of advice you’d give any player looking to go pro that you wish you’d received at the beginning of your career?
Beehzy: Just to make you sure apply yourself and put In your full 100% effort in. I spent so many years half assing it when I didn’t even realize at the time. If you truly believe in yourself never give up. Just because you see your peers around you having quicker success does n’t you can’t also achieve yours in due time. Everyone operates in their OWN time zone.
There’s already been a ton of leaks and speculation of what the next CoD game is going to be. What are you hoping the next game is?
Beehzy: I have pretty low hopes for the next game. I’ve never been a fan of the Infinity Ward games. I guess I’d say I hope the trying to create a new series rather than continuing the Modern Warfare series.
What’s an achievement you’re hoping to accomplish by the end of 2019?
Beehzy: My main goal now that we’ve achieved the Pro League is to win a event. I won’t be able to look back at this gaming adventure as a success if I don’t accomplish that.
Thank you Beezhy for taking the time to speak with us during your busy week! Good luck to Beezhy and the Excelerate Gaming team. You can catch Excelerate Gaming as they continue to grind through the strong Division B in the Pro League.
