Interview with WoWCrendor @ Blizzcon 2016

Comedian, YouTuber, and Streamer; Wowcrendor embodies all of that. With a focus on World of Warcraft, Crendor makes videos that vary from machinima, game playthroughs, and top 10s. Since starting out, Crendor has made dozens of classic videos for the MMORPG. Outside of World of Warcraft, Crendor also partakes in other games such as Hearthstone and League of Legends. Novalas managed to catch up with him at BlizzCon 2016 to talk about his adventures, his videos, and his plans for 2017.

How are you enjoying the event so far?

Crendor: So far it's pretty good, there hasn't been any major announcemments but like, theres been enough to make me happy. They have the Necromancer, I'm really excited about the Necromancer, Diablo 1, because I never played Diablo 1 so like alright, I'll play Diablo 1, and then Heroes of the Storm, I played Ragnaros, Ragnaros is pretty fun, (let's see, what else), Hearthstone, Hearthstone's big because I love opening packs, so getting to open an entire expansion worth of packs again, because the last expansion was the Old Gods. That's mainly what I've been excited about.

You mentioned that you tried out Ragnaros. How did that go?

Crendor: I mainly like the fact that Ragnaros is more of a caster type, but you can take over a building and you can kind of swing at people near by and knock them back and stun them, so it's a different type of hero, compared to the other heroes, but theres also Varian, which I think can be like, 1 sword and go into like 2 swords, (I didn't get to play him), but Ragnaros was fun, so I'm looking forward to Ragnaros.

What do you think was lacking this Blizzcon?

Crendor: Just the major announcement thing. A few years ago we had Overwatch so everyone was like "Wow, it's Overwatch!", and then last year I forget what the major announcement was, but if they would have done like Diablo 4, I feel that's what was really lacking, that big "Oh my god" announcement, it was just kind of like "Oh that's cool", "Oh thats cool" but nothing that really blew you away.

Were you not too into the Diablo 1 recreated in Diablo 3?

Crendor: Yeah I mean it's cool, but it's not like "Oh my god" cool, it's just "cool".

How many Blizzcons have you gone to so far?

Crendor: This is my fifth one. So there was 2011, there wasn't one in 2012, 2013, 14, 15, 16, so 5.

What is your main focus right now between your Youtube channel and streaming?

Crendor: Right now I try to balance it, because I used to do 100% Youtube, but Twitch is nice because it's a community, so it's more of like a "Hey, I'm just going to hang out and play some games", and it's more of a relaxed feel as opposed to like sitting there editting forever and then putting that up and then people commenting and being like "You missed lethal in this Hearthstone video" and I'm like "I'm bad at the game, sorry", so i enjoy streaming things like going around doing world quests in [World of Warcraft] or just chilling and having a good time, and then League of Legends when you play like a 50 minute game it's easy to just hop on and stream it instead of recording the entire thing and filming, so streaming makes things like playing games for a long period of time easier, while Youtube is better for the editted style of content, like I do pointless top 10s, where I just make top 10 lists out of pointless things like trees in [World of Warcraft], so that's what I like Youtube for now, or playing a Tavern Brawl or something fun like that.

A while back you said you were getting burnt out on World of Warcraft, would you say Legion has reinvigorated your passion for the game?

Crendor: Yeah, I'd say so. I think Legion had just enough to keep me playing constantly, so World quests (even though they're just daily quests remasked), so I've been having just going out and doing those for some reason, theres something in your mind that changes when you do a world quest and you dont have to pick it up somewhere, I don't know what it is but I've had fun. So I love Legion, I think it's really good.

What do you expect to be doing for 2017

Crendor: I'd like to do Twitch more, because I've really been getting into Twitch and really enjoying it, and as for Youtube I'd like to do more [World of Warcraft] machinimas like I used to now that I actually play a lot of [World of Warcraft] again, it's inspired me to want to make those types of videos again, because in the past it's become harder if I dont play as much or if I wasn't inspired, but playing it has inspired me a lot and that's what I'd like to get back to doing.
