I recently caught up with ROOTblitz to discuss his recent move to ROOT gaming, streaming and Dota 2. Best known for his popular stream and solid play Blitz has recently joined the newly formed ROOT team along with the rest of the roster they look to be a solid up and coming team.
Alright first tell us a bit about yourself.
ROOTblitz: I'm William Lee. A student from Indiana, currently taking the summer off to play DotA. I also stream currently at twitch.tv/BlitzDota. I play the solo mid / carry role for ROOT, and am in charge of all the grunt work like doing interviews and signing up for things :3
How did you first get involved in Dota?
ROOTblitz: I've been playing DotA 1 since 2008. Due to Korean parents, they never really let me play games, so I was never able to play seriously, and I've been running on a bad laptop most of my career so that hurts. But I came into DotA 1 as it was dying, and a lot of people minus most of the NADota stalwarts had switched. Then DotA 2 came, I decided to go for it.
You have been running a stream for a while now, how would you say the experience has been for you?
ROOTblitz: Fantastic. It was a grind at first, and not having any sort of name or sponsor hurt, but doing it consistently and on a regular basis helped. Streaming though, aside from the money, has been fantastic in the sense that I get to interact with a lot of people and meet new people / hear stories. It keeps DotA interesting in matchmaking as I can do fun stuff for my stream. Above all, its changed me as a person. Nobody likes seeing a rager, and I've actively improved at not taking the game so seriously / getting so angry over stupid things. Much love to the guys who frequent my stream, seriously.
Newly re-formed Root gaming has recently acquired your team, can you give a bit of information on this?
ROOTblitz: CatZ and I randomly met through a matchmaking game and kept in touch since then. When we decided to make our current lineup, Catz offered us a spot on ROOT, saying that he had faith in us as a group. Some details I left out for privacy sake etc, but this is the gist of it.
Being a newly formed team what are your main goals?
ROOTblitz: Play as much as possible. Were behind the curve of teams, so we need to work much harder to catch up. Were thinking of ourselves at the very bottom, and we'll need to play 1-2 games more per day, 4-5 more per week, whatever it takes to catch up. My goal, personally, is to reward Catz faith in me by giving them a quality team.
Well best of luck and thank you for taking the time to interview! Any shout outs or comments?
ROOTblitz: I want to give a shoutout to my stream, ECAL, Mikey, Bulba, Grant, Jeyo, all the swedes I play with. I ask the DotA community be patient with us, and celebrate an Esport expanding into what used to be such a small inclusive game.
Thank you to ROOTblitz for the interview, you can watch his stream at http://www.twitch.tv/blitzdota . Look forward to seeing him and his team progress in the near future!
