How to Do Luminosity’s Smoke Path Strategy on de_cache

During the match between Luminosity Gaming and Team Liquid at the MLG Columbus Major 2016, Luminosity used a kind of strategy which we haven’t seen very often in pro games. They created a path of smokes to surprise their opponent and earn them a free kill. This strategy was a great way to gain entry onto the A site and cause chaos over on the Team Liquid side. Let’s see how they did it.

The strategy was used in the fifth round where Luminosity was on the T side. Luminosity goes in to their default at the beginning of the round. Players fer and TACO went towards the A site, fer in A main and TACO in squeaky. It’s important to notice in what situation they were, because this strat can only be used if A main is smoked off by the CT’s. The strat is very situational and once you have used it, the opponent will know what those smokes mean. So you can only use this strategy once. You and your team have to decide what timing is best.

The strategy can work two ways; the player using the smoke path gets a kill on the A site or he fails and the strategy becomes a improvised fake. You can see in the video that Luminosity is still in their default setup once this small strategy is going on. Only when TACO gets a kill does the entire team moves towards the A site to surprise the enemy and play off of the kill he got. In the clip TACO gets a kill allowing for an easy A take on Luminosity’s part. Unfortunately for them, Hiko goes beastmode in a 1 v 4 and they end up losing the round.

The smokes

The first smoke is thrown from A main. Stand in the corner against the locker and look towards quad. This smoke can only be thrown if the CT's smoked off A main, otherwise you would be way too exposed from the A site. Line up your crosshair with the crate on left and the metal bar above the A main entrance. Do a normal throw. This smoke is pretty tricky because, if you throw it too far, there will be a gap between the two smokes and if you throw it too short, you can't make it all the way towards the end of quad.   

The second smoke is thrown from squeaky. Open the door and place yourself at the back wall. Strafe against the wall until the right side of the doorway is lined up with the second from middle line on the wooden crate outside. Now look at the bottom of the doorway and aim a little bit to the left of the right side of the doorway. The smoke will bounce a bit awkwardly towards the A site and pop right outside of squeaky. 

The end result should look a little like this. As you can see there can be a small gap in between both smokes. If you have thrown the smokes correctly, only your feet should be visible. 

Now the player in squeaky can cross through these smokes towards quad. Make sure to exit the smoke to the side and not while moving forward. This is so you will see the enemy before he sees you, creating a sort of one-way smoke. And thats it! Try it out yourself in a match or pug and see what happens. Good luck!
