Smokes for Mid on de_mirage

On de_mirage, taking mid control allows for split strategies to be executed on either of the bombsites and multiple avenues of attack. Smoke grenades can be used to block off vision of the enemy and safely reach various positions of the map. Here are some smokes to close off key areas of the mid area on de_mirage.

 

Top Mid Smoke from T-spawn

It is not uncommon for the enemy team to have an AWP player holding the cross to the boxes at the top of mid. A well placed smoke can improve your chances of crossing safely to the top mid boxes.

 

To throw this smoke, jump on top of the green trash can at T-spawn and tuck yourself into the corner. Aim at the tip of the prong of the right tv antenna and use the primary attack throw. With this smoke, the CT cannot be sure how many terrorists can be positioned at the top of mid. However, T players should be wary that CTs can push up the ramp towards top mid.

 

Mid Connector Smoke from Outside of B-Apartments

Walk into the corner and face towards the mid area. Look up, there should be a rug dangling down. Place your crosshair on the third red circular pattern on the rug. Prime the grenade, jump and release.

 

Mid Connector Smoke from Inside of B-Apartments

On the red wall, line up with the fine vertical line at the corner. Aim along the lower electrical wire between the two prongs of the antenna and use the primary attack throw.  

 

Short Smoke from Top Mid Boxes

For this smoke, you want to tuck yourself between the wagon and the left box at top mid. Aim at the highest point of the antenna on the building and use the primary attack throw. This smoke will cover short completely including any CT players who are playing in the ladder room door. However, just remember that CT players can boost on the double stack bricks or inside the smoke to look over it.

 

Mid Window Smoke from Outside of Palace

This smoke is one of the most consistent as it allows for a greater margin of error due to the trajectory. Find the last window along the walkway and line yourself up in the middle of the last window frame. Place your crosshair where the two electrical wires intersect (lower one to the right), move your crosshair straight up until the height of the antenna. While using the primary throw, run up and release just before you touch the fencing of the walkway.

 

Mid Window Smoke from Inside of B-Apartments

This smoke when thrown in combination with the mid connector smoke will assist your team in pushing up short. Inside B-apartments, look for the fine line under the right side of the window frame against the red wall. Place your crosshair on the second dark spot from the right and move up until you reach the corner of the outline on the adjacent building (refer to picture).

 

Mid Window Smoke from Top Mid Boxes

With this smoke, you don’t need to wing that window smoke anymore. Crouch into the corner of the right box and the wagon at the top of mid. Aim your crosshair where the barrel meets the box, stand up and use the primary over arm throw.

 Bonus Smoke - Mid Window Smoke from T-spawn

This smoke is the most difficult as there are so many factors of variability and it doesn’t allow for a large margin of error. It involves a run up, a jump and utilising both the primary attack and secondary attack buttons.

Tuck yourself in the corner of the doorframe and aim slightly to the left of the window frame, using the inner frame as a reference point to determine where to aim on the vertical axis (up/down). Here is the sequence on how to throw this grenade after crosshair placement:

1. Prime the smoke grenade with primary attack (left-mouse button)
2. Move forward
3. Jump
4. Tap secondary attack (right-mouse button) and release all buttons as soon as possible to throw

 

As mentioned before this smoke is extremely difficult to hit consistently due to the many variables (run, jump, mouse button release) that can alter the trajectory of the grenade. With practise you can find consistency when throwing this smoke.
