Mountacular: A guide to farming Poundfist in WoW

The World of Warcraft contains endless hours of entertainment. Players can do a variety of activities in WoW like raid, player vs player, or do achievements. For a select breed of players that favorite aspect is farming mounts. Let’s talk about some of the easiest mounts to get, but some of the rarest you will see.

Why Should I Farm Mounts?

Mount farming has been around since the days of Vanilla WoW. Simply sitting AFK in trade Looking For More for Dire Maul apparently wasn’t enough for some people. Outside of the usual faction mounts there were some pretty cool mounts like the Swift Zulian Tiger. Granted a lot of the earlier mounts are no longer obtainable there is still a large variety to waste time farming. Mount farming is a trophy for your time spent grinding that really rare Phosphorescent Stone Drake that no one on your server has and at the end of the day allows for some bragging rights.

You may be asking yourself, “Where do I begin?” To that I say you can begin anywhere, but let's check out one of my favorite mounts.

Poundfist

Poundfist is a Gronn that spawns in Gorgrond. He drops the Sunhide Gronnling mount which is a smaller version of the NPC himself. Poundfist behaves very much like Time-Lost Proto Drake in the way he spawns. If you have ever attempted to farm this mount you will know the sheer agony of just waiting for Poundfist to spawn in 17 more minutes. Between the incredibly long respawn time and the trolls in general chat I do not know how people seriously managed to live through it.

Here is what we know

- Poundfist has a minimum spawn timer of 48 hours.
- Danellos, a Blizzard forum MVP, has confirmed that the spawn timer averages between 48-96 hours with a maximum kill timer for 143 hours.
- Server restarts do affect the spawn of Poundfist
- Some people are instanced, that means Poundfist could potentially spawn more then once on your server.
- HE IS NOT CC’ABLE YOU NEED TO HAVE EVERYONE TAKE OFF THEIR GEAR

There is also a large amount of player related resources available to check and see if Poundfist has been killed or not on your server. Now, bear in mind that this may not be accurate since Poundfist does spawn in different instanced versions of the servers themselves. Dreadravenanzu (@dreadravenanzu) has put together a spreadsheet that players can submit proof of kill to so you don’t waste endless hours withering away in your computer chair.

I personally got my kill at 86 hours into the farm, that is not including the 40+ hours which I sat in Gorgrond waiting for Poundfist to come out of his cave (spawn).

My advice: Bring a lot of entertainment and friends. Since Poundfist has multiple spawns it is nearly impossible to cover them all, and beingsthat he is easily soloable means you could potentially miss out on a kill. This is a grind to end all grinds and you better be ready for it.
