Improving Gameplay: Just Add C4

We all love a good explosion, am I right? And what better to cause said explosion than a shedload of C4? The recon class comes with C4 unlocked as a gadget from the very beginning, allowing the class to become more mobile and a lot bigger part of the action. C4 can also be unlocked for the support class with a 134,000 support score.

C4 has several uses, the most obvious being vehicle destruction. Most vehicles take 3 bricks to be destroyed, 2 bricks will disable a vehicle and leave it burning (note it can be repaired from this state). I sometimes place 4 bricks for good measure though. Detonating the C4 can be a tricky business. If your enemy is unaware of your presence it's fine, you can just sneak away to a safe distance and detonate. However, if your enemy knows you're there it's not always so simple. For example, close up to a tank you might be fine because you can't be targeted from there. But as soon as you run you'll be shot down and there will be no awesome explosive multikills and vehicle destruction for you. If you stay close to the vehicle in crouch or prone position you should stay out of range of guns and turrets (dependent on the vehicle) sometimes they will drive off and give you chance to safely detonate, unless they run you over, then you're dead. In other cases the enemy may jump out of the vehicle to deal with you. This is the perfect opportunity to jump in and drive off, kill the raging enemy in the process and begin your tank rampage. Sometimes though, you might be C4'ing a vehicle that is aware of your presence and there are other enemies coming for you. In these situations you need to weigh your chances. You may die if you run and get no kills in the process. Or you can detonate your C4 there and then, committing suicide yes, but also receiving one or more kills, vehicle destroyed points and depriving the enemy of your life. Happy times.

Running up and planting C4 on a vehicle isn't always the safest or quickest method of obliterating the enemy team's armour. Sometimes a faster, cooler option should be taken - in the form of a jeep. A C4 jeep. So place all of your C4 on the front of a jeep and pray nobody shoots you. Then get in and accelerate. Drive straight at the target, tanks and IFVs are your best bet. Make sure you're going fast and there are no obstacles in the way between your jeep and your target, then jump out before you meet your final destination - give it enough room that you're out of the blast radius but leave it close enough that your jeep still comes into contact with the target. Once you're out, just as the jeep makes contact hit the detonate button. For extra cool points walk away without looking at the explosion.

Vehicle destruction isn't C4's only use though. You know those times when your team just seems to be stuck in a choke point? You can't reach the objective because the enemies are blocking the way firing a constant stream of projectiles in your direction? This is the perfect time for C4! Equip the gadget, wait for some covering fire, run, jump, drop C4 and detonate. Sure you'll kill yourself but you'll take out anyone in range too. The way will be cleared for your team and they can finish the job. This method works best if the enemies are grouped at the bottom of a set of stairs, that way you can jump into their midst or behind them and avoid a lot of the fire, mostly because they don't expect anyone to be stupid enough to run straight at them.

Alternatively if the kamikaze style isn't quite your thing, you can use C4 to kill anyone. Sneak up on campers and snipers - drop a brick of C4 - get out of range and BOOM! Warning: Player may make campers rage quit.

You can also place traps wih C4 around objectives and popular enemy destinations. Be careful though, it can easily be blown up by bullets and grenades. Try hiding the explosives under boxes, rocks, dead bodies, on walls - anywhere where they aren't totally obvious. You can then either hide and wait around for your prey to come, or you can go off somewhere else then when you see the objective being taken detonate. If you place it discreetly it will be a literal deathtrap for the other team who may well flame you for your efforts.

As we know the destructable nature of the maps make for diverse and ever changing battlefields. Use this to your advantage. Wouldn't that building make a perfect sniping spot? Why not blow it up and destroy the enemy's cover? When destroying buildings, be careful your teammates aren't inside - I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate being squashed! The rubble can also be a great place for hiding and setting traps. As well as this if you ever come across somebody just hanging out in a building but you fear that you'll get shot or hit by a claymore as soon as you walk through the door, just walk around the outside place some C4 on the wall where they are hiding and detonate. Even if you don't kill them they should be injured and disorientated by the smoke and rubble, giving you the opportunity to finish them. 

For extra cool points you can also C4 air vehicles by jumping out of jets and helicopters - not for the faint hearted. Your aim and timing have to be just right, you eject from your jet and drop down towards the enemy, drop the C4 and ideally manage to get back into your jet as you are falling - nowhere near as easy as it sounds! Or when you parachute down onto a map why not drop some random bricks of C4 on your way down and detonate when you land. You might get some kills, and if not though at least you looked awesome landing in front of an explosion.

C4 is such a wonderful tool. Vehicle destruction, building destruction and people destruction can all be achieved through its explosions. Suiciding doesn't matter when you get multikills with C4, does it?
