Alexandre 'Kaydop' Courant has been one of the best players in the world over the past few seasons of RLCS as the team surged to their second title in June in London, and they added to their collection by winning NARLI 2 in dominating fashion. We caught up with him to chat about his opinions of the EU roster shuffle that has happened recently and also the team's trip to the Sixers' facility in Philadelphia earlier this year.
So first, let's talk about your trip to America. What was your favourite part about the trip and what did you learn from who you met during your time there?
Kaydop: My favourite part about the trip was at the Sixers facility. It was really great to see the facility and how basketball is similar to gaming and being a player. We met with Sixers staff, their sports science team, and I learned how to eat better and what not to eat. Overall the trip was amazing.
While you were in America, you also managed to break non-RLCS Grand Final curse at NARLI 2. Were you thinking about that at all during the final against NRG?
Kaydop: We were focused during the final, we knew we could win it again and show to everyone we were not lucky at RLCS. But NRG are still our hardest opponent right now, so it was pretty scary to play them again.
After that tournament, the roster shuffles started to be announced, so firstly, what is your opinion on the removal of Metsanauris from Complexity and the addition of Greazymeister. Did you feel the team made the right decision?
Kaydop: About the roster change of Complexity, I don't know if it was a good choice or not. With Metsanauris, they play really well and always have great results so it's a risky choice to change the roster. But Greazy is a really good player, so I'm pretty sure they will play really well with him.
Scrub Killa was also announced on Team Vitality. As someone who is very familiar with him in the 1v1 scene, do you think the skills and experience he has gained in 1v1 help him during this next season of RLCS?
Kaydop: 1v1 and 3v3 is not comparable, but Scrub plays well in 3s and he is a really good player in every mode, 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. He has shown it already, so it will be a really scary team with Fairy Peak and Paschy
There are lots of RLCS rookies this year coming up from RLRS, like Alex161, Tigree, Fruity, and MummiSnow. How well do you think they will cope with the top EU teams, is there any player in particular who you think will stand out next season?
Kaydop: I don’t really follow or know them - but I can say that there are a lot of rookies that are coming out of RLRS and they have to keep their game on and work hard to stand with the rest of the top EU teams.
How is the team planning on staying ahead of all the new talent and stay the best team in the world?
Kaydop: We need to continue to scrim and to play the game, and we will still stay at the best level and improve again and again. If we keep doing this, we should continue to win.
Thank you for your time! Do you have any final shoutouts or messages you want to give?
Kaydop: I’d like to give a shoutout to my community, supporters, Team Dignitas for being a great organization, our sponsors, and the Sixers for hosting a great bootcamp!
