Interview with DIG CS:GO Fe player, milk

Mon 2nd Dec 2019 - 9:38pm

Dignitas recently participated in the WESG USA Qualifiers, where they reached the Grand Final but up being losing against CLG Red. Although not happy with the defeat, Kiara "milk" Makua sees great promise in the future of the squad. We’ve reached out to her to know how things are going after the defeat and how are they looking to improve their game going forward.

Hi Kiara. We haven’t talked since May. How are things going with you?

milk: They're going well, I'm just gaming and practicing every day, so yeah, it's going well!

You’ve recently played the WESG USA Qualifiers, where you were able to go through the Lower Bracket into the Finals. How did that run in the Lower Bracket went?

milk: We ended up winning our Lower Bracket, which bumped us to the Grand Finals. It was pretty easy winning in the Lower Bracket, just because I think us and CLG Red are the most experienced female teams.

You end up playing CLG Red in the Grand Final, the same team that knocked you to the Lower Bracket earlier in the tournament. Did you prepare anything differently for the final?

milk: Yeah, we definitely talked about it, we tried to correct all our mistakes. We ended up doing pretty well against them despite losing. I feel that we've put a better fight versus the time we played them earlier in the tournament.

You ended up losing the Grand Final 0-3, failing to qualify for the next stage of WESG. What do you take from that match, despite the loss?

milk: There's just a lot of mistakes on our part, and at the end of the day, they just played better CS than us. We just have to accept that and get better moving forward and really understand our mistakes.

According to artStar, it was a really important qualifier for you and the squad. How much of a hit can that have in you going forward?

milk: I mean, to me WESG is pretty important and is an all-female tournament with a lot of money, probably the most money. But I believe everything happens for a reason and it just wasn't our time, so hopefully next time we'll really show everyone what we can actually do.

So, it's way past behind you now?

milk: Yeah, I mean, we can't really dwell on it. We can't go back in time and change anything. We just have to focus on the next one and improve.

That's the right mindset! What are you working on the most at the moment? What rough edges are you trying to polish in-game?

milk: As a team, we're really trying to understand the game better and more in-depth - we're really trying to basically use more of our brains in the game. Really try to think what we should actually do, what's a good and bad decision, because one thing that we really struggle with is that we can't make up our minds in-game and we end up losing timings and eventually rounds. We're trying to make really quick and good decisions, if that makes sense, so yeah, we've been trying to work on that and really pay attention to what's going on in the game and around us.

And are you seeing any development?

milk: Yeah, it's a slow improvement. No one should expect for us to be all-stars in like a week. It's something that takes time, so I feel like we're on the right path. Sure, it's going pretty slow, but at least it's going somewhere. Maybe in like a year or something, we'll be really putting out results that we've been wanting!

Are you still living in Hawaii and dealing with the high ping issues?

milk: Yes, I still am. But to me, since I've been dealing with this ping issue for so long, I feel that I can work my way around it, and I try not to let it bother me or affect me in-game. But yeah, you definitely have to play different with high ping, I feel like. You can't always just hold an angle, because you will get stomped if they pick you. So, picking my timings to peek people has always been very... interesting. But I plan to move to the mainland sometime next year because it really is an issue, because if we face better players, I won't be able to do well.

Any words you’d like to say to close out this interview?

milk: Thanks for reading this interview!
